Kolar, Oct 18: In the third such case in recent months in Karnataka, a police official allegedly shot himself dead with his service revolver at Malur Police Station in Kolar district in the early hours today.

38-year-old Raghavendra Muniyappa, a circle inspector, returned to the police station after a night patrol and shot himself fatally around 2 AM, police said.

The reason for the extreme step by the police official was not known immediately, they said.

Kolar district Superintendent of Police Divya Gopinath said the reason for the alleged suicide was not known and police were investigating the case.

The latest alleged suicide by a police official comes months after two similar incidents which had triggered a controversy.

DySP in Mangaluru M K Ganapathy had allegedly committed suicide in July, which had stirred a huge political storm, as he had blamed Minister K J George and two top IPS officials for his extreme step.

George had resigned as minister amid the controversy but was recently reinducted after the Karnataka CID gave a clean chit to him and the two senior police officers in its 'B' report filed in a court in Madikeri court.

Ganapathy was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a room at a lodge in Madikeri, prior to which told a local TV channel that George and IPS officers AM Prasad and Pranab Mohanty would be responsible "if anything happens to me."

On July 5, the body of deputy SP of Chikkamagaluru sub-division Kallappa Handibag (35), accused of kidnapping a person for ransom, was found hanging in his father-in-law's home at Murgod in Belagavi district.

Mangaluru, May 31: Karnataka BJP president MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has claimed that there has been no differences of opinion within the state BJP.

"The BJP-led government will complete its term under the leadership of B S Yediyurappa," Kateel told media persons in the city on Saturday.

“A few MLAs had met and discussed the developments in North Karnataka. There is nothing wrong in discussing development keeping in mind the party's interests.”

Indiscipline within the party will not be tolerated. Strict action will be initiated against those who indulge in such activities by the party High Command, he warned.

The government, led by Yediyurappa, has carried out good works in the state. All the MLAs are supporting the chief minister. All the MLAs are in contact with me, claimed Kateel.

Bengaluru, Jan 22: Chief minister BS Yediyurappa has urged the business community to focus on industries that are farmers and job-oriented and promised that his government would provide all the assistance it can in setting up these industries.

“My government will go the extra mile to facilitate industries that help farmers and provide jobs for youths,” Yediyurappa said during a meeting with several investors and entrepreneurs on the first day of the World Economic Forum, which brings global industry players and government representatives face- to-face, in Davos, Switzerland, on Tuesday.

The chief minister met representatives of 2000 Watt Smart Cities Association, which is represented by sustainability professionals of Nuesch Development, a Swiss Company, and ReNew Power. Both made presentations of their projects to the state delegation.

Yediyurappa appeared impressed by the 2000 Watt’s food processing clusters (development of modern infrastructure and common facilities) projects in rural areas. While presenting their concept, company representatives said they are willing to invest in food clusters, which can provide a better remunerative price for farm produce.

“We will provide all assistance and scientific farming techniques to grow healthy food and market them with added value to the produce,” said Andreas Binkert, scientist and academician, 2000 Watts.

Madhav Bhagwat, CEO of Nuesch Development India, told the Karnataka delegation that the company specialises in carbon-neutral smart township development projects and it has already signed an MoU with the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority.

ReNew Power delegates expressed interest in setting up solar power plants in North Karnataka districts like Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, Koppal and Raichur. Samanth Sinha, CEO, ReNew Power, urged the Karnataka government to remove bureaucratic and legal bottlenecks in acquisition of land.

Industries minister Jagadish Shettar and chief secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar among others were present at the meeting.

Yediyurappa and members of the state’s delegation attended US president Donald Trump’s address at the meet. Union minister of commerce and industry Piyush Goel and Union minister of state for shipping Mansukh Mandaviya were also present in the audience.
