New Delhi, Sept 17: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and is learnt to have updated her on the progress in the investigation into the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh.

Siddaramaiah explained the sequence of events and assured her the probe is moving in the right direction. Emerging out of the meeting, the chief minister said it was just a courtesy call and discussed the political developments in the state.

Soon after Gauri’s murder, Sonia and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi dialled the chief minister and urged him to act swiftly to bring the culprits to book. He said he had directed the SIT to coordinate with the CBI, the Maharashtra police and the Karnataka CID, which are probing the murders of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar, Govind Pansare and M M Kalburgi respectively.

Dismissing BJP’s allegation of a rise in political killings in Karnataka since the Congress government came to power, the chief minister said no killing should happen whether it is of right or left ideologues.

Later in the day, Siddaramaiah also called on President Ram Nath Kovind.

The chief minister also met Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and requested her to hand over defence land for Metro projects and road widening in Bengaluru in exchange for land in Anekal.

Siddaramaiah said the minister assured him the state’s demand will be considered and would also look into the state’s request to conduct an air show during Mysuru Dasara from September 21 to 27.

Bengaluru, Apr 21: The group who had attacked police and healthcare workers at the minority-dominated Padarayanapura in the city on Sunday night had raised slogans ''kill police'' when the team went to quarantine some people, the police alleged in an FIR.

Around 100 to 120 people rushed out onto the road targeting the police and health workers who wanted to pick up primary and secondary contacts of coronavirus patients.

Cases have been registered against the miscreants based on the complaint of police officers.

In one of the FIRs, police sub-inspector Raman Gowda complained that when he went to quarantine 43 people with the healthcare officers, around 120 people rushed out and attacked them.

"The group of people holding sticks and stones rushed from Arafat Nagar," Mr Gowda said.

When he was trying to stop them from destroying a CCTV camera, the mob attacked him shouting slogans ''Kill the police. Don't spare them," he alleged in the FIR.

"They wanted to kill us with stones and sticks and some of our staff sustained injuries," the officer said.

According to police, 59 people have been arrested including A woman who had allegedly masterminded the attack.

Bidar, Feb 5: The police has intensified investigation into the 'sedition case' against the management and staff of a school here, where children are facing chare of insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others, in the context of CAA, in a drama they staged on January 21.

The police again visited Shaheen School on Tuesday and questioned children and staff -- this time in plain clothes, after their questioning of children in uniform on January 28 drew criticism from some quarters, a school official said.

"Morning three police personnel came with two members of Karnataka State Child Rights Protection Commission. Later, the deputy superintendent of police H Basaveshwara joined them.

The cops were in civil dress," the official said.

The police have been questioning the children and staff about those who wrote the script and assigned to deliver specific dialogues.

Police have already arrested Nazbunnisa, the mother of one of the children, who had allegedly delivered the controversial dialogue and their teacher Fareeda Begum, who oversaw the event.

When contacted, the deputy superintendent of police of Bidar H Basaveshwara refused to comment on the matter saying that he was still investigating the case.

Meanwhile in Bengaluru, Congress MLA and former minister U T Khader slammed the BJP government in the state as well as the Centre for "filing sedition charges against people".

Addressing a press conference, he alleged that the Central and state governments were trying to suppress the voice of people in the country using law enforcement agencies.

Khader claimed that the two women who "depicted the problems they were facing" in the drama were booked under the sedition law. During investigation, the children were forced to sit at the police station, he alleged.
