Chikkamagaluru, Nov 21: The Dattamala Abhiyana, conducted by Sri Rama Sene, concluded on Sunday, with devotees participating in a procession in the town and visiting Guru Dattatreya Bababudan Swamy Dargah atop Bababudan Hills. The Sene has been conducting Dattamala Abhiyana for the past 12 years.

Sene workers and Datta devotees, who had reached Chikkamagaluru from different places, took out Shobha Yatre, a procession, from Kamadhenu Anjaneya Temple to Bolurameshwara Temple. More than 70 sadhus from North India participated in the procession. The devotees carried saffron flags during the procession. It was the first time that so many sadhus had taken part in the procession.

From Bolurameshwara Temple, the devotees travelled to the shrine in private vehicles. They had the darshan of Datta Padukas in the shrine. The Sene leaders held religious programmes at a venue close to the shrine.

Pramod Mutalik, founder of Sri Rama Sene, speaking to presspersons, said that the participation of sadhus from North India this year had strengthened the morale of Sri Rama Sene. “We will continue our fight to ensure the shrine is declared a place of Hindus. The State government should appoint a Hindu priest to the cave temple and also shift the tombs in the premises,” he said.

Mr. Mutalik and other leaders of the Sene, during the visit to the shrine, demanded that they be allowed to conduct puja in the cave temple. As the representatives of the district administration did not permit them to do so, they staged a dharna. A few sadhus supported the protest.

The Chikkamagaluru district administration had deployed police in the town and at the shrine to avoid any untoward incident from taking place on the day. More than 1,700 policemen were part of the security arrangements.

Bengaluru, Jan 8: The Karnataka high court on Tuesday directed the government to submit steps taken in respect of the order of Lokyukta in relation to the Kethaganahalli landgrab case involving former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, his relatives and former minister DC Thammanna.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka gave the direction on a PIL filed by Samaj Parivartan Samudaya (SPS), an NGO. The petitioner said despite an order from the Lokayukta on August 5, 2014, to take action within 15 days, no action has been initiated till date in respect of encroachment of a huge tract of land in Kethaganahalli along Bengaluru-Mysuru highway.

SPS says the land was purchased in 1979 contrary to norms of Karnataka Land Revenue Act. It claims Kumaraswamy and others paid only Rs 5,000 per acre, although the prevailing market rate was Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 per acre.

Bengaluru, May 10: Former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday accused the state government of not preparing proper guidelines to bring back people who are stranded near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border areas.

"No proper guidelines have been given to officials to bring back people who are stranded near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border. From the last 45 days, many of these people have not got any relief nor are there any proper directions or guidelines from the state government," alleged Kumaraswamy.

He also accused the state government of cheating the people of Karnataka.

"Karnataka government is cheating people the same way it cheated with the flood compensation. The state government had announced lakhs of rupees as compensation to those who lost houses in the flood last year. But nobody has got the records or details as to how many people got benefited from it," he added.
Fifty-three more COVID-19 cases were reported in Karnataka on Sunday, the state government said.

The total number of cases in the state is at 847, including 405 discharged and 31 deaths so far, the bulletin said.
