Will convince mutt seers to call off agitation for separate state: Yeddy

Bengaluru, Jul 30: BJP State President B S Yeddyurappa, on Monday, stated that he will visit Belagavi on Tuesday and convince the heads of various mutts to call off their agitation for a separate North Karnataka state.

In a press statement, Yeddyurappa blamed Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy for the current unrest in North Karnataka.

He referred to the issue wherein, Kumaraswamy reportedly told North Karnataka farmers that they had no moral right to demand crop loan waiver because they had not voted for JD(S) in the Assembly polls.

Kumaraswamy was trying to divide the state for the sake of power and survival, Yeddyurappa stated.

The BJP always stood for a united Karnataka and at no cost will it support the division of the state, Yeddyurappa stated.

Politician considering power as a job. If they have power/came into power, they will use and do temporary solution. If they are not ruling, they dont have any loyalty towards people. They will put everything on ruling govt, sit back, enjoys and most of the time makes the situation worst to get attention towards them, like Yeddy doing now

Mangaluru, May 21: A man who was quarantined in Moodbidri town of Dakshina Kannada after returning from Mumbai has reportedly committed suicide under mysterious circumstances.

The victim has been identified as Dayanand Poojary from Kadandale.

The exact reason for the suicide is not yet known. However, it is suspected that he might have resorted to the extreme step out of fear about COVID-19 and about the means of his future livelihood.

He was admitted to the quarantine facility at Kadandale school around 1 am on Thursday, May 21. Within a couple of hours he ended his life, sources said.

A case has been registered and investigations are on.

Bengaluru, Jun 9: The total number of positive COVID-19 cases in Karnataka rose to 5,921 on Tuesday after the state reported two deaths and 161 new cases of the virus.

"Two deaths and 161 new COVID-19 positive cases reported from yesterday 5 pm till today at 5 pm, taking the total number of positive cases to 5,921," said Karnataka Health Department.

The toll in the state is presently at 66.

While 164 patients have been discharged today, the number of discharged patients so far is 2,605. The active cases in the state stands at 3,248.

Among the new cases, Yadgir contributed highest (61), followed by Bengaluru Urban (29) and Dakshina Kannada (23). Udupi did not report any new case. More details to follow.

Mangaluru, Jan 9: A forest guard was arrested caught red-hand by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials while accepting Rs 3,000 bribe from a person for granting permission to cut Mahogany trees for his personal use, a statement said on Thursday.

According to the statement, the arrested identified as N Sudheer sought bribe of Rs 15,000 from Gopalakrishna Herale, a resident of Beltangady.

Mr Herale, in a complaint, lodged on January 7 said that he had sought a permit from the forest department for cutting of Mahogany trees purchased by him.
