Dakshina kannada receives excess rainfall

Mangaluru, Jul 6: The coastal district of Dakshina Kannada has received excess rainfall than the normal in June this year.

Kumar, additional deputy commissioner, said during a meeting with officials here that as against the normal average rainfall of 942 mm, the district has received 944 mm rainfall in June.

The disrict and the coastal belt has been witnessing heavy downpour for the past few days.

The district has received 124.4 cms of rains from January to July this year as against the 109.8 cms recorded last year during the same period, he added.

Mangaluru, Feb 26: Customs officials at Mangalore International Airport on Wednesday arrested a man for trying to smuggle gold worth over Rs 26 lakh by concealing it in his rectum.

The accused has been identified as Moideen Arzan, a resident of Uppala, Kasaragod.

According to police, he arrived from Dubai by an Air India flight and was attempting to smuggle the gold which he had converted in the form of paste and concealed in rubber capsules inside his rectum.

Mangaluru, May 12: Air India will operate two flights - one each from Doha and Muscat - to bring back stranded Kannadigas from Qatar and Oman to Mangaluru next week. 

The flight from Muscat to Mangaluru will be operated on May 20 via Bengaluru. It will depart from Muscat International Airport at 1.15 pm local time and reach Bengaluru at 6.15 pm. After the layover at Bengaluru airport, the flight will take off at 7.15 pm and land at Mangaluru International Airport at around 8.10 pm.

Doha – Bengaluru – Mangaluru flight is will be operated May 22. The flight will take off from Doha at 1.30 pm local time and will land at Bengaluru at 8 pm. It will take off from Bengaluru at 9 pm and land at Mangaluru airport around 9.35 pm.

Mangaluru, Feb 29: The state general assembly (SGA) of Karnataka unit of the Popular Front of India was held from February 27 to 29, 2020 at Puttur in Dakshina Kannada district wherein new functionaries were elected for the next two years.

Yasir Hasan was elected president of the state unit of the organisation while Nasir Pasha was elected general secretary. Ayub K Agnady, Mohammed Sharief and Shahid Nasir were elected vice president, secretary and treasurer respectively.

The state executive committee members are: Abdul Khader, Abdul Majeed, Sharief Kodaje and Mohammed Tafseer.

The SAG commenced with the hoisting of flag by outgoing president Muhammad Saqib on February 27. The three day meeting analyzed the growth and activities of the PFI for the past two years. It was observed that the organization has received positive acceptance among the society.
