Funeral violence: All accused including ‘absconding’ saffron leaders get bail

Mangaluru, Jul 26: A local court has granted bail to all accused in connection with the stone-pelting that led to chaos in BC Road during the funeral procession of slain RSS activist Sharath Madivala earlier this month.

Those who secured bail through district and sessions court on Wednesday include five hardline Hindutva leaders from the region who had gone absconding after the Dakshina Kannada district police authorities slapped cases against them for their alleged involvement in the incident.

The leaders Satyajit Surathkal, BJP backward class morcha state secretary, Sharan Pumpwell, Bajarang Dal state convener, Pradeep Pumpwell, Bajrang Dal leader, Harish Poonja, president of Dakshina Kannada district unit of BJP Yuva Morcha, Muralikrishna Hasantadka, Dakshina Pranta Goraksha Pramukh, were accused of conspiring in the stone throwing during the procession on July 8. They had applied for anticipatory bail under section 438 of the CrPC.

In all, 17 persons, arrested by Bantwal town police personnel following stone throwing, had filed bail application under section 439 of CrPC.

The fourth additional district and sessions judge Nerale Veerabhadraiah Bhavani heard the anticipatory and regular bail applications. In his order, allowing anticipatory bail, judge said absconding leaders shall be released on personal bond of Rs 50,000 with two sureties, one of whom has to be their parents, sibling or spouse.

The five have been asked to appear before the investigating officer within next seven days. They have also been asked to regularly appear before Bantwal town police twice every week till filing of the charge sheet.

They judge directed them to obtain regular bail from additional civil judge and JMFC court within the next 14 days. Among other conditions imposed on them, includes bar on their entry in to Bantwal without express permission of the local magistrate.

This ban will not apply on them for their court and police station appearances. The judge directed these leaders not to intimidate any witnesses and get involved in any crime. The judge warned that if any of the bail conditions are violated, then their bail will be cancelled on an application from investigation officer. The court also imposed similar conditions while granting bail to 17 persons and warned their bail will be cancelled if they violate any of the conditions laid down.

Mangaluru, Jan 3: Mangaluru police arrested another person on charge of spreading communal hatred through messages. The accused have been identified as Abubakkar Siddique (48).

"One Abubakkar Siddique has been arrested in connection with a case for spreading communal hatred through inciting messages," said Dr PS Harsha, commissioner of police, Mangaluru.

On December 31, Police have arrested one person, Moideen Hameez, on charge of spreading communal hatred through social media.

The Mangaluru city police on Monday served notices to a few persons for posting inflammatory messages on social media.

The Cyber Crime police have summoned the accused persons to appear before it on January 2.

"Action against miscreants spreading communal hatred on social media underway in a major way. A dedicated team of cyber experts is keeping a hawk's eye on anyone fomenting communal disharmony anywhere on the internet," Harsha said in another tweet.

Bengaluru, Jun 20: A petition has been filed in Karnataka High Court to transfer Amulya Leona case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). She raised pro-Pakistan slogans at an anti-CAA rally on February 20 at Freedom Park.

The petition, filed by advocate Vishal Raghu, blamed the probe team for not filing chargesheet on time and suggested the state government to approach the higher court against bail granted to Amulya Leona.

On June 11, she was granted conditional bail by the Bengaluru civil court.

She was charged with sedition for her actions in the presence of All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi.

The court granted bail after hearing the bail application. Amulya's advocate on behalf of the petitioner said, "the petitioner is just a 19-year-old lady and she is studying in a private college in the Bengaluru. She shouted 'Pakistan Zindabad' but she never mentioned Pakistan as her country."

Jeddah, Jul 9: Karnataka NRI Forum Jeddah, a registered charitable organization under Government of Karnataka & Indian Consulate Jeddah - Saudi Arabia, helping the Kannadigas overseas and in Karnataka state as well, has initiated played its role in helping stranded Kannadigas to travel back to home under Vande Bharath Mission. 

The first flight which was departed to Bengaluru from Jeddah through this mission had 155 passengers. The forum had helped hundreds ofstranded Kannadigas in reaching their destinations with majority passengers were on emergency medical issues and pregnant women.  Still hundreds of Kannadigas are looking ahead for the help to fly back.
