Udupi, Nov 26: Even though Vishwa Hindu Parishath international executive president Pravin Togadia had claimed that Udupi’s Dharma Sansad has nothing to do with politics, he made vailed attack against Congress while delivering the keynote address at the massive Hindu Samajotsav organised as a part of the valedictory ceremony of the three-day event here on Sunday.

“The only wish that all Hindus have is that they want to see Ram in the Mandir at Ayodhya. Gandhi topiwalas (Congress) do not understand the sentiments of the Hindus. There will be no negotiation pertaining to construction of the temple. The saints and seers are committed” the hardline leader said.

Accusing Pakistan of sponsoring terrorism in India, he called for the elimination of the neighbouring country from the world map. “Pakistan should be 'uprooted' as the it is attempting in all possible ways to sponsor terrorism in India,” he said.

Kashmir is an integral part of India, but considering the terrorist activities in the state, it is imperative to  ensure Kashmir remains the crown of the country by eliminating terrorism in the state, he said.

Lamenting that insulting Hinduism and religious people has become fashionable, Togadia said 'The film Padmavati should be banned. It is an insult to the mothers and sisters of the country'.

He said that an appeal would be made to the central government and all other  state governments to ban the screening of the film. "Padmavati is an Indian mother. She has made all her sons and daughters proud, she is the symbol of self-esteem for all Indians", the VHP leader added.  He also lauded the state government which banned the screening of the movie.

He maintained that untouchability should be completely eliminated with all temples, wells and crematoria open for all Hindus. He stressed all upper class Hindus to support the Dalits and SC/ST community financially and educationally. "Every Hindu should stand up with self-respect," he added.

Pejawar seer Sri Vishwesha Theertha seer asked the Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah, if he the latter respects Basavanna and his preachings at all. "He should immediately implement ban on cow slaughter in the state," he demanded.

Hubballi, Jan 30: Seeking to disabuse people of the notion that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), recently passed by the BJP-led central government threatened the legitimacy of Muslims in the country, yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Wednesday said that he would among the first to take to the streets should the community face any such trouble. “If the National Register of Citizens (NRC) threatens injustice to Indian Muslims, it I not just I, but a billion Indians will protest against its implementation,” he added.

Recalling his longstanding association with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ramdev said, “I have known Modi for more than 15 years, and I can assure you that he cannot be called anti-Muslim. There is nothing in the CAA that threatens the rights of Muslims, some of whom are being misled by a few.”

The yoga guru said that, while 99% of the Muslims in India were patriotic, the remaining ones were seeking to divide the country, which he said was resulting in Islam falling into disgrace. “I appeal to all Muslims to keep away from such anti-national forces seeking to bring a bad name to Islam,” said Ramdev, calling on the people to stay united in the face of the severe economic crisis that the country was presently in the grips of.

He added that he was as committed to his goal of getting black money back to India. However, when quizzed by journalists as to how long he was willing to wait for PM Modi to realise this objective, Ramdev said, “Chodi, mere aur Modi ke beech jagada mat lao (Please do not incite a fight between Modi and me).”

The yoga guru also endorsed the decision of the Centre to recognise singer Adnan Sami with a Padma award.

New Delhi, Apr 29: WhatsApp on Tuesday said it will now allow up to eight people to connect on a group video call as an increasing number of people turn to digital platforms to connect with friends and family amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Facebook-owned company said over the last month, people on average are spending over 15 billion minutes talking each day on WhatsApp calls, well above a typical day before the pandemic.

"...we see that people all over the world are turning to voice and video calling on WhatsApp more than ever before. Group calling has been particularly useful and our users have asked to connect with more people at once," WhatsApp said in a blogpost.

Starting Tuesday, the company is doubling the number of participants one can have on a WhatsApp video or voice call from 4 to 8 people at a time, it added.

WhatsApp emphasised that like written messages, all calls on its platform are protected with end-to-end encryption.

"We have built group calling in a way that makes it available for as many users as possible, including people on lower-end devices and slow network conditions," it added.

WhatsApp said that to access the new, higher participant limit on WhatsApp calls, all participants in a call need to update to the latest version of WhatsApp available on iPhone or Android.

Video calling tools like Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Zoom and others have also seen a significant jump in userbase and traffic as people connect while maintaining social distancing amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Last week, Facebook had introduced Messenger Rooms that will soon hold up to 50 people with no time limit.

It had added that the company will also add ways to create rooms from Instagram Direct, WhatsApp and Portal.

Noting that between WhatsApp and Messenger, more than 700 million accounts participate in calls every day, Facebook had said, adding that video calling on Messenger and WhatsApp more than doubled in many countries.

Also, views of Facebook Live and Instagram Live videos have also increased significantly in March, it said.
