Bengaluru, Mar 10: Naveen Kumar KT alias Hotte Manja, a hardline Hindutva activist and gunrunner, who was arrested last month in connection with the murder of journactivist Gauri Lankesh, has now been booked for allegedly plotting to assassinate progressive writer and rationalist Prof. K S Bhagavan.

The police on Friday added Section 307 (attempt to murder) and Section 120(b) (criminal conspiracy) to the FIR. 37-year-old Naveen was allegedly part of a group that was plotting a target the writer in a manner similar to how Guari Lankesh was killed.

“Naveen Kumar did a recce for the planned hit on professor Bhagavan. He along with his associates surveyed the writer’s house in Mysuru, and other places he frequented,” said a senior police officer.

“They also conducted target practices in isolated places in Chamarajanagar forest range. During a detailed questioning, the accused confessed to this, and we have sufficient evidence to corroborate the conspiracy,” said the officer.

According to officials, Naveen, who hails from Madur taluk of Mandya district, founded the right-wing extremist organisation, Hindu Yuva Sene. The police picked him up from Kempegowda Bus Station, Bengaluru, on February 18 while he was allegedly waiting for his associates. Fifteen live cartridges — .32 calibre — were recovered from him.

“He was on our radar and his arrest was timely. We believe that a delay on our part would have allowed him to target professor Bhagavan,” said the officer. Naveen was arrested in connection with this case and a city court remanded him in police custody for nine days on February 19. On March 2, he was remanded in judicial custody.

The 5th Additional Metropolitan Magistrate, on Friday, granted bail to Naveen in connection with the arms case. The bail was granted minutes before the SIT submitted to the court documents to add Section 307 — which is a non-bailable one — and section 120(B) in the FIR. “We are filing a revision petition before the court seeking cancellation of the bail,” said M.N. Anucheth, Deputy Commissioner of Police, (West).

Bengaluru, Aug 6: Firebrand BJP Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya on Wednesday said that control of state power by Hindus is absolutely essential for sustenance of Dharma.

His comments, in a series of tweets, came on a day Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Lord Ram temple at Ayodhya.

"Dear Hindus, Most important lesson is that control of State power by Hindus is absolutely essential for sustenance of Dharma. When we didn't control State, we lost our temple. When we regained, we rebuilt. The 282 (seats) in 2014 and 303 (seats) in 2019 to Sri Narendra Modi made today possible!", Surya, who is also the party's BJP youth Wing state general secretary, tweeted.

He also said that the survival of India depends on the survival of Sanatana Dharma.

"The Sanatana Dharma, that is nationalism,' Sri Aurobindo had said in his Uttarapara speech. But what does it mean? Along with Jai Sri Ram, the purohits also chanted Bharat Mata Ki Jai - That is Dharmic nationalism. If Dharma survives, India survives," he said in another tweet.

Bengaluru, Feb 29: The BJP leaders in Karnataka rallied behind Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal amid a controversy over his remarks that centenarian freedom fighter HS Doreswamy was a "Pakistani agent."

The saffron party leaders have extended support to Yatnal, days after he called Doreswamy a "fake freedom fighter" who behaves like a "Pakistani agent".

Yatnal made the comments at a press conference on February 25 while reacting to a query on a public meeting organised by the Congress titled 'Save the Constitution'.

"There are many fake freedom fighters. There is one in Bengaluru. Now we have to say what Doreswamy is. Where is that old man? He behaves like a Pakistan agent," Patil had said.

"Doreswamy is an elderly person and senior to all. He had participated in various agitations. He should also see what to talk and who will be hurt with those statements. We have all seen what he said about Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar told reporters in Kodagu on Saturday reacting to Yatnal's outburst against Doreswamy.

Noting that the statements were made in bitter taste, Kumar said, "If you speak unpleasant (things), you will hear unpleasant."

Bellary City MLA G Somashekara Reddy too backed Yatnal saying that the his statement was appropriate. "There is nothing wrong in his statement. It is absolutely correct. I support him. It is not just okay to be a freedom fighter, but he should be a 'Deshbhakt' (patriot) too, who respects the unity and integrity of the nation."

On Friday, another BJP Minister KS Eshwarappa slammed Doreswamy alleging that he had visited Amulya Leona's residence and shared a good relationship with her family.

Leona had raised 'Pakistan Zindabad' slogans at an anti-CAA event here on February 21, taking everybody present by shock and dismay.

"We respect Doreswamy but he dances to the tune of Congress and supports whatever their leaders say," Eshwarappa said.

Bengaluru, July 23: The Janta Dal (Secular) and Congress that had joined hands together in Karnataka ‘to keep communal forces at bay, have once again turned archrivals. The development comes a year after the collapse of JD(S)-Congress coalition government in the state.

Recently, Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah claimed that the Congress would have won at least 10 seats in the Lok Sabha elections had it not been for the alliance with the JD(S). In response, former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy of the JD(S), who headed the coalition government, blamed the Congress for its many 'conspiracies'.

In a series of tweets on Wednesday, Kumaraswamy said he was prompted by Siddarmaiah's claims to recall what transpired during the coalition government.

"There will never be a future alliance with Congress," Kumaraswamy declared, in a letter to his party colleagues on Wednesday. He claimed that there were many conspiracies on part of Congress, which led to the fall of the coalition government.
