Bengaluru, Dec 16: The ‘sanskari’ Kannadigas have managed to exert enough pressure on the state government to deny permission to Bollywood actor Sunny Leone to perform at a New Year's Eve show in Bengaluru. However, they have not stopped Googling images and videos of the former porn star!

"We have denied permission for Sunny Leone’s show fearing law and order problems in the wake of protests by pro-Kannada outfits and also keeping in view the directions of the Karnataka high court in a molestation case reported on MG Road last New Year's Eve," home minister R Ramalinga Reddy said.

He added that they decided not to grant permission considering that her fans in Kochi went berserk during her visit there in August. "We took feedback from Kochi police before taking the decision," Reddy added.

The event billed as 'Sunny Night in Bengaluru NYE 2018' was to be held at White Orchid convention centre in the city. The organizers, however, said, "We haven't received any official communication from the police. We'll wait for it before calling off the event. We don't know why there is so much fuss about Leone performing here. She is here only to perform for a family show."

A senior police official said they may not permit Sunny Leone for the event. "We are waiting for the government's directions. As of now, home minister and other senior police officials are of the opinion that permission should not be given," he said.

Some pro-Kannada groups, including Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, were up in arms against the show claiming her performance here will be an assault on Kannada culture and tradition and will corrupt young minds. "We don't want her to come spoil our youth," the protesters had said.

Karnataka Rakshana Vedike members protested on Friday at Manyata Tech Park by burning posters of the actor and even threatened to commit "mass suicide" if her programme is eventually held.

This was not the first time that Leone is visiting Bengaluru for an event. After reinventing herself in Bollywood, the Indo-Canadian actor had even acted in Kannada movie 'DK'.

Interestingly, Sunny Leone continued to be Google's most searched Indian entertainer in 2017 like previous year and the contribution of Kannadigas in this regard also remarkable!

The search engine giant has released its 'Most Searched' list. And Indo-Canadian porn star-turned-Bollywood actress Sunny Leone is right at the top of the most searched entertainer list in India.

Bengaluru, Apr 20: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Monday came down heavily on Congress legislator BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan over the Padarayanapura vandalism that saw a mob run amok against efforts to quarantine suspected COVID-19 persons late on Sunday evening.

Khan, who represents the Chamarajpet constituency where Padarayanapura is located, said that authorities should have gone to the area during day time.

“Who is he to say that? What does he have to do with this? Why should we ask him? Should we get his permission to carry out government work? Instead of saying that action should be taken, he is speaking like this. Should we then think that he incited the mob? This is the height of being irresponsible,” Yediyurappa said.

Following the violence, the police have arrested 54 persons and “five more will be arrested,” Yediyurappa said.

Khan clarified that he did not defend those who indulged in vandalism. “I condemn the incident and action should be taken. I’m not saying officials shouldn’t have gone. My point is that they should’ve gone during the day and by creating awareness beforehand that people need to be quarantined,” he said, adding that the BBMP had identified 57 people to be quarantined in Padarayanapura.

“People in this area are poor, uneducated and are mostly coolie workers and daily wagers. But whatever happened was wrong,” Khan said. He also pointed out that he was the one who arranged for 80 people to be quarantined in Tipu Nagar.

Yediyurappa said the Padarayanapura incident was unprecedented. “In the entire state, never had such incidents taken place. Everybody agrees this is unacceptable,” the CM said. “Whoever breaks the law - Hindu, Muslim, Christian or anyone - should face action,” he said.

Bengaluru, May 2: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president DK Shivakumar has urged Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa to help the farmers in sending their produce to a market here amid the coronavirus lockdown.

The Congress leader made the appeal to the Chief Minister after listening to the farmers' issues while visiting KR Puram market on Friday.

Farmers told Shivakumar that the police are stopping their vehicles going towards the market despite the order passed by the Centre permitting the movement of vehicles carrying essential commodities during the lockdown.

"I have received calls from more than 100 farmers in the past few days. Every day, farmers from Kolar, Chikballapur, Malur and many other places come to KR Puram market to sell their agricultural goods, but their vehicles are stopped by the police. The cops do not allow them to sell fruits and vegetables. I request the Chief Minister to look into the matter and help the farmers," Shivakumar told reporters.

"I got to know that more than 50 vehicles were sent back. This government is of no use if they cannot secure the interests of the farmers. This government is not providing required support to the farmers," he added.

The Congress leader was accompanied by MLC Narayana Swamy and former president of Hoskote Authority Narayana Gowda during the visit to KR Puram market.
