Mangaluru: Youth killed as speeding lorry hits scooter at Beeri

Mangaluru, Sep 28: A 22-year-old youth was killed in a road accident on National Highway 66 at Beeri near Kotekar on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Akhtar, a resident of Perubail near Ullal, who was riding his Honda Activa scooter.

According to sources, a speeding lorry coming from the direction of Kasargod rammed into Akhtar's two-wheeler near Beeri junction.

Akthar, who was heading to Beeri from Maroor on his scooter, thrown onto the road and died on the spot within a minute after the accident.

A case has been registered at Ullal police station and investigations are on.

Bengaluru, April 3: One new positive case of COVID-19 was reported in the state on Friday.

The patient is a 75-year-old man from Bagalkot and has been isolated at a designated hospital in Bagalkot, the State government said.

"Till date, 125 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the state, this includes three deaths and 11 discharges," it added.

The total number of coronavirus positive cases rose to 2301 in India on Friday, including 156 cured/discharged, 56 deaths and 1 migrated, as per the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Mangaluru, Mar 29: Mosques across Karnataka are now turning into centers to create awareness against deadly coronavirus that cause Covid-19. 

The state government's board of auqaf has issued a notification to the administrations of all mosques to use their loud speakers to create awareness against the virus. 

All the mosques in the state have already suspended congregational prayers to prevent the spread of the virus.

As per the decision of the state board of auqaf, now all mosques have to play the audio clips that creates awareness against the virus in three languages. 

The clips will be played at 10 a.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. everyday.

Udupi, Aug 1: A young rider lost his life after a head-on collision between a scooter and a car on K G Road in Udupi last evening.

The deceased has been identified as Praveen Ganiga (24), a resident of Kodavoor in Malpe.

According to police Praveen was riding his scooter on the wrong side of the road. The car was plying from Brahmavar to Udupi.

The people on board car suffered minor injuries in the mishap. A case was registered at Brahmavar police station and investigations are on.
