Mandya, Feb 11: A 19-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly by four of his friends near a Dargah at Pandavapura in Mandya district yesterday following a clash between them over religious differences.

stabAccording to sources, the differences between two Muslim groups – Tablighi Jamaat and Barelvi – led to the murder of Luqman, son of Munavar Pasha, a local resident.

It is learnt that he was stabbed by Suhel (23), Wasim, Konda Pasha and Khaleel. Police arrested Suhel but others are at large.

According to the complaint lodged by the victim’s father, the suspects were pestering Luqman, who followed the Barelvi school of thought, to join Tablighi Jamaat. They decided to kill him when he didn’t accede. They stabbed him near a dargah in front of the KSRTC?bus depot around 10.30 am on Friday. He was taken to a hospital in Mysuru where he died from excessive bleeding.

The murder sparked tension in the town and police were deployed in Muslim neighbourhoods.

As the news began to spread, a few Muslim youths assaulted Asif, the head of Mahmoodiya Mosque, for allegedly instigating the suspects to induct Luqman into Tablighi Jamaat.

Luqman’s father said that a clash broke out between Suhel and Luqman on Thursday night and that he had approached the police to take action against Suhel but the police neglected the incident and did not register a case.

MLA?K?S?Puttanaiah and Superintendent of Police C H Sudheer Kumar Reddy visited the spot.

Istead of this kind of fights muslims should get together and fight against social evils like RSS and so on. Muslims can't be defeated in all over the world because we like death as much as kaafirs like life.

New Delhi, Feb 3: BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde's swipe at Mahatma Gandhi has irked the top party leadership and he may be forced to apologise, party sources said on Monday.

A senior BJP leader said the Karnataka leader's comments were "condemnable" and the party leadership is upset with him.

"The party has conveyed its displeasure to him and asked him to take remedial measure. Any insult to Mahatma Gandhi is unacceptable," he said.

Hegde, a former Union minister, reportedly claimed at an event in Bangaluru that the entire freedom movement was staged with the consent and support of the British, and the independence movement led by Gandhi was a "drama".

He also wondered why the Father of the Nation was called 'Mahatma' (a great soul).

The party leader said the Lok Sabha MP is a "disciplined" member of the party and will do what he has been asked to.

Hegde, known for hardline Hindutva leanings, has a history of making controversial remarks.

This man and some others like him have reached the peak of their madness.

They will not change their attitude, as they know that nobody can do any harm to them.

Therefore they will listen only to dire action what they deserve per the penal code. If required put him behind bars.

Dont harm them more, see their families.

Mangaluru, Jan 20: The improvised explosive device (IED) recovered from a bag at Mangaluru airport was defused in an open field by the personnel of the bomb disposal squad on Monday.

A short while ago, the Commissioner of Police in Mangaluru, PS Harsha, narrated the incident, along with the action taken by the security personnel.

"Today at approx 9 am a suspect dropped the baggage, containing plausible explosive substances, at the Mangaluru airport. It was spotted by the security personnel and then the bomb detection and disposal team was pressed into action," Harsha told reporters here.

"The area was cordoned off and then the suspected object was taken in a threat containment vehicle to a spot for defusing the explosive device. The local police have registered an FIR in this connection based on the complaints of CISF," he added.

The Commissioner said that three teams have been formed for "identification and apprehension of the accused."
He further said that the visuals of the suspect have been shared for his identification, and urged citizens of Mangaluru and around the nation to come forward and inform the police if they have any knowledge of the accused.
