Nothing wrong in teaching English: Dr Acharya at Kannada convention

Udupi, July 3: Konkani, Kodava, Tulu and Beary languages, which co-exist with Kannada in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Coorg districts have not been a hurdle in the development of Kannada. Hence, there is nothing wrong in teaching English along with Kannada, opined Udupi District in-charge minister Dr VS Acharya.


He was speaking after inaugurating the Udupi Taluk Kannada Sahithya Sammelan, organized at Late Uliyaragoli Bhojaraja Shetty hall of Sri Laxmi Janardana Auditorium, Kaup on Sunday.


Dr Acharya said that the tradition of Kannada Scholars has been deteriorating, since the days Madras Province. Kannada scholars of those days have been the walking encyclopedias. Teachers can contribute a lot to the development of Kannada, he stressed.


Principal of DR TMA Pai College of Education Dr Mahabaleshwar Rao presided was the president of the convention.


Inaugurating the books stalls at the convention venue former Minister Vasanth V Salian stressed the need for taking up the study of litterateurs who contributed to the development of Kannada. He also demanded the government to build district level Kannada Bhavans in each districts.


Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon expressed happiness for the convention being held in Kaup constituency represented by him.

Mangaluru, Jul 23: A nurse who was serving as a frontline COVID warrior at the Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru and has recently tested positive along with her 7-year-old son has complained to the Deputy Commissioner against the harassment meted out by some miscreants who have been spreading false rumours against her.

Health official said that some people in her area have given false complaints against her to government officials thus inflicting mental torture on her and her family.

In her letter, the nurse has stated that the attitude of the people forcing her to consider quitting the job. "I have served the people by treating my work as worship. Anti-social elements have been torturing me now. I am very much hurt," the she said. 

The nurse’s house at Moodbidri has been sealed after she was tested positive. However, her husband and younger child were tested negative.

New Delhi, Feb 18: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is holding a daylong meeting with 70 columnists from across India on Tuesday in an effort to clear misconceptions about the organisation, sources said.

RSS chief Bhagwat, who last year met representatives of international media organisations posted in India, is expected to deliver a keynote address that will be followed by a free-flowing conversation, they said.

The 70 columnists attending Tuesday's meeting write in different languages.

The meeting, in Chhattarpur in New Delhi, is a closed-door meeting and the proceedings are "strictly confidential", the sources said

Mangaluru, Feb 13: A college student was killed when a bullet tanker knocked his motorbike down near Nanthoor Circle in the city today. 

The deceased has been identified as Karthik Malya, a resident of Mannegudda. He was a final year degree student of Besant College in the city. 

The incident took place when Karthik was from Suratkal to Mangaluru. The bullet tanker reportedly hit the two-wheeler from behind and ran over him. He died on the spot.
