Mangalore, June 2: This is the time to prove that educated voters are with the Bharatiya Janata Party, said Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda.

He was addressing BJP workers at a preparatory meeting of the party in connection with election to South-West Teachers' Constituency and South-West Graduates Constituency scheduled on June 10.

Mr Gowda told party workers that winning the coming State Legislative Council election would be a challenge for the party.

The party has fielded D. H. Shankaramurthy, Chairperson, Karnataka Legislative Council as the candidate for South-West Graduates' Constituency for the fifth time. It has fielded Ganesh Karnik, sitting MLC, as its candidate for the South-West Teachers' Constituency for the second time.

Mr Gowda said that the Legislative Council had MLCs representing different sectors of the society. The council always had a healthy debate in detail over many issues. The council discussed more issues when compared to issues discussed in the Legislative Assembly.

He reiterated that services of the State Secretariat would also be brought under the ambit of Sakala launched this April. He said that of the 18.50 lakh applications filed under the scheme in a month after its launch, the government had disposed off 15.34 lakh applications.

The Chief Minister claimed that the BJP announcing the names of its six candidates for the election of MLCs from the Legislative Assembly without any issues indicated that the party was united. He said that the Congress was now divided over selecting its candidates. Congress leader Siddaramaiah has quit as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly over issues relating to selection of Congress candidates.

Minister for Medical Education S. A. Ramdas said that the coming election to the Legislative Council from the constituencies of teachers and graduates would be a “semi-final” to the next year's election to the State Assembly. The Minister said the BJP had to carry out “operation Kamala” due to the fractured verdict in the last Assembly elections.

Bengaluru, Feb 18:  A fan of Kannada film star Darshan smashed the face of a police constable with a boulder when the latter asked him to come in the queue to a party to celebrate the star’s birthday.

The incident happened past midnight on February 15 near the residence of the film star where his birthday was being celebrated.

The injured police constable has been identified as Devaraj, attached to the Jnana Bharathi police station.

The film star’s managers had not made arrangements to handle a huge crowd that gathered near his residence and police had a tough time controlling the crowd.

Constable Devaraj was deputed to duty at the party and tried to get the crowd to fall in line.

As the police carried out a mild lathi-charge to control the crowd, a fan of Darshan came up with a boulder in his hand and smashed the face of the constable Devaraj from very close distance. The constable collapsed on the spot and the attacker ran away.

The impact was such that Devaraj’s nose was fractured and he sustained an eye injury. He was admitted to a private hospital and his condition is said to be serious.

The R R Nagar police have registered a case under IPC sections 353 and 352. The cops have launched a hunt for the accused and they are obtaining CCTV footage from the spot.

A complaint is being registered against the organisers of the event and an investigation is on. Several neighbours of Darshan have also complained to the police about the chaos on February 15.

The bubble helmet, which has a special collar attached to it, helps the patients with breathing issues, and to avoid using ventilator facility.

Dr Ganapathi said, "When a patient needs intubation we will be providing them oxygen bubble helmets and we will first give it a trial before we intubate a patient."

"I have converted an ordinary snorkelling mask into a ventilator assist device, this mask can be used as a personal protection device by connecting it to a bacterial viral filter," he added.

Dr Ganapathi said that the connector has been made available in India and a snorkelling mask can be easily converted into a ventilator assist device. And it will make the management of coronavirus patients easy.
