Mangalore, November 11: Talent Research Foundation (TRF), Mangalore in association with Samanwaya-Muslim Shikshakara Sangha (SMSS) organised a programme on Sunday observing 'National Education Day' to mark birth anniversary of Moulana Abul Kalam Azad, at Talent Conference Hall in the city.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohammed Nazeer, Chief Planning Officer of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat said that the district had been tagged as one of the cleanest in the country, but factually it wasn't so. People often brush away their responsibilities and neglect their own surroundings, assuming that sanitation is the duty of the city corporation. Teachers and communication media play an important role in making people aware of their responsibilities in sanitation as citizens, he said.

Speaking on the problem of water scarcity, he said that there was a need to spread awareness in schools on optimum use and conservation of water, along with sanitation. Teachers should help create awareness in children in schools, he said.

The community of Muslims is in a bad position financially and educationally, in various places in the state and country. They face lot of problems. Lack of education may be the cause for this, he opined.

He lauded the efforts of TRF in conducting social welfare programmes in the region.

Sulaiman Sheikh Belvai, industrialist, and others inaugurated the programme by introducing a common frame of Moulana Azad, Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Teresa.

Dr Abdul Sharief, HOD of Mechanical Engineering, P A College, said that the value of secularism should not be stopped at school level, but it should be followed in our daily lives. Students should be taught and encouraged to have goals, he advised teachers.

B E Thumbe spoke about the life of Moulana Azad.

K M K Manjanady, SMSS chairman, M H Malar, SMSS secretary and Mohammed Rafeeq Master, TRF advisor, were present during the programme.
