Pak’s victory triggers tension in Kodagu, Shivamogga; saffronists thrash youth

Madikeri/Shivamogga, Jun 20: Tension prevailed for some time in remote areas of Kodagu and Shivamogga districts of Karnataka following the victory of Pakistan against India in the finals of the Champions Trophy. india

Based on a complaint of Sangh Parivar activists, the Kodagu police have arrested four persons on charge of celebrating Pakistan’s victory. Riyaz, Samad, Munir and Jabir of Elane Hosakote are the arrested. Riyaz is the son of Elane Hosakote Gram Panchayat vice president Kunhi Kutti.

According to sources, a group of saffron activists thrashed the four before handing them over to police. The saffron activists claimed that the four youths came on their scooters and in a Maruti van, burst fire crackers and raised victory slogans at seventh Hosakote Junction around 10.30 p.m.

As the news spread, hundreds of Hindutva activists assembled in front of the police station on Monday morning and urged the police to file sedition case against the accused. BJP district president B B Bharatish, Vishwa Hindu Parishat district general secretary D Narasimha and others submitted a written complaint to the PSI in this regard.

When the saffron activists attempted to stage a protest at Kannada Circle, Kushalnagar DySP Sampat Kumar and Circle Inspector Kyate Gowda spoke to the protestors and promised to register an FIR under IPC Sections 153B and 295A.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed for a while at Melinakuruvalli near Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district on Monday, after a local youth reportedly posted congratulatory message to Pakistan.

Jabi Qureshi, a resident of Melinakuruvalli, reportedly posted a message on his Facebook wall that “we are champions”.

There are numerous England supporters in India but no one is against them! Can we support France in football when French had looted and invaded India? Why do Indians support Brazil or France or Germany in FIFA when Indian team is not playing in it? Indians only need to support Kabbadi instead... Come on guys, just keep aside your enemity atleast in sports.. Support whichever team you like..

They should not have celebrated Pak win openly...if at their home does not matter but not openly....their soldiers are killing our innocent soldiers....

Cheering for a team of enemy country, Celebrating the victory of enemy country against our own country is not at all justified. We all Indians should be ONE against such country in any activity. There is hard feeling or soft feeling PERIOD.

Are we going to celebrate victory of Bangladesh against India??? No one does that. Then, why Pakistan???

Cong MP approaches SC seeking directions to open Karnataka-Kerala border

New Delhi, Mar 30: Congress MP Rajmohan Unnithan on Monday approached the Supreme Court seeking directions to open the Karnataka-Kerala border to allow movement of ambulances and other emergency vehicles for the transport of essential items to Kerala.

Unnithan, who is an MP From Kerala's Kasaragod constituency, filed a plea seeking direction to Karnataka to open the borders with Kerala and in particular Kasargod-Mangalore border at Talappadi.

The petition sought directions to Karnataka to allow the movement of ambulances, emergency vehicles, trucks and other vehicles carrying essential and non-essential items to Kerala. It also sought to stay the blockade imposed by Karnataka with its border states.

The plea also sought directions to Karnataka to register an FIR and constitute a special investigation team (SIT) under the supervision of this court to enquire against the concerned authorities including the police officials whose action led to the death of two citizens.

It said that the imposition of such a blockade at a time when the supply of commodities is itself hit hard and when a medical emergency has plagued the entire country is a clear violation of Articles 21 and 19(d) of the Constitution.

"This blockade has also resulted in cutting off the essential lifeline of National Highways and State Highways and major District Roads leading to the State of Kerala which has resulted in the shortage of supply of essential and non-essential items to the State of Kerala leading to shortage supply of food and medical supplies," the plea said.

"This ill-planned and dangerous blockade has claimed the life of a 70-year-old woman who was denied entry into Karnataka even for the purpose of urgent medical treatment which was only available in the medical hub of Mangalore. This is a clear case of violation of the right to life with dignity by the state as citizens are made to die on the roads because of the action of the state which is in total disregard to Article 21," it added.

This comes as the country is under a 21-day lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus, which according to the Ministry of Health and Family Affairs has claimed the lives of 29 people and infected a total of 1071 people as on Monday morning.

Women’s satyagrah, human chain mark Martyrs’ Day in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jan 30: A day-long ‘satyagrah’ by women followed by formation of human chain marked the Martyrs’ Day, the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, in Mangaluru.

The organisers were ‘We, the People of India’, whose sole intention was to safeguard constitution of India and raise voice against those to attack the constitution.

Amidst nationwide agitation by ‘We, the People of India’ against contentious CAA, NRC, the women of Manglauru have decided to hold satyagrah and form a human chain in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner in the heart of the city on January 30.

The Satyagrah commenced at 10 a.m. At 4:30 p.m. a human chain will be formed. At 5.17p.m. when the father of the nation was gunned down 72 years ago during his evening prayer at Birla House by Godse, the demonstrators raised the slogan of unity to defeat the ideology of Godse.
