Polls: Rahul, Amit Shah to tour north Karnataka

Bengaluru Feb 24: The presidents of two national parties - Rahul Gandhi of the Congress and Amit Shah of the BJP will be touring north Karnataka districts from Saturday as part of their parties' election campaign.

Rahul will commence his second leg of Janaashirvaada Yatra from Belagavi. He will be touring Belagavi, Vijayapura and Dharwad districts for three days till February 26.

Shah is scheduled to arrive in Karnataka on Saturday evening. He will tour Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Vijayapura and Bidar districts on February 25 and 26.

Bengaluru, Feb 13: Veteran freedom fighter and advisor to the Karnataka Government in Education Reforms HS Doreswamy on Thursday has recommended Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa to make it mandatory for MLA and MLCs to adopt at least three govt Schools in their respective constituencies.

Mr Doreswamy appealed to the Chief Minister to implement the suggestion in the State budget for 2020-21 to be presented by him on March 5.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Doreswamy, on the higher education sector, stressed the need to appoint highly qualified candidates for Vice Chancellor posts. There is no dearth of talent and eligibility in the State and authorities concerned must ensure that the right person is appointed by taking extreme care".

Mangaluru, Feb 19: Social worker Tabassum who has been rendering selfless service to HIV/AIDS affected children through her shelter home 'Snehadeep' at Bejai has been selected for the Annual Award of Mangaluru Press Club for the year 2019.

Tabassum, a resident of Konaje was chosen by a team of judges comprising Prof Balakrishna Gatti, Dr Vasanth Kumar Perla and Dr Nagaveni Manchi.

The passion of young  Ms Tabassum and Social Working of today, particularly, gives me lot of hope.  It almost feels like the political class wants to bring down India while the people are so hard working and committed to nation building.

Bengaluru, May 3: Five more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Karnataka, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 606, the state government said on Sunday.

The total number of cases includes, 25 deaths and 282 discharged.

"Five new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Karnataka from 2nd May, 5 pm to 3rd May, 12 noon; taking the total number of positive cases to 606 which includes 25 deaths and 282 discharges," the government stated.

According to the statement, out of the five cases, three have been reported from Kalaburagi and two have been identified from Mudhol.
