Karawar, Dec 14: Uttara Kannada district, which was otherwise returning to normality after series of violent protests, has witnessed a stabbing incident in Honnavar taluk resulting in injuries to a high school girl, forcing the district administration to impose prohibitory orders.

The stabbing incident took place at Magodu on Thursday morning. Two assailants who had covered their faces tried to stab 9th Class student Kavya Shekhar Naik. However Kavya managed to escaped without grievous injuries.

She was immediately rushed to Government Hospital in Honnavar, where she is being treated. Hospital authorities told mediapersons that the girl had suffered injuries on both hands.

Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada S.S. Nakul and Superintendent of Police Vinayak Patil immediately rushed to Honnavar and spoke to the girl. They reportedly sought details from her about the assailants.

The incident led to imposition of prohibitory orders in the entire taluk till 11 a.m. of Friday.

Superintendent of Police Vinayak Patil said that the incident was being investigated. On whether the incident was related to the communal tension, Mr. Patil said he would be able to comment on it only after the probe ended.

Meanwhile, Honnavar, Kumta, and Sirsi, which witnessed violent protests and vandalism, have returned to normality, but a huge posse of police continue to monitor the trouble-hit areas.

Mr. Patil said barring the stabbing incident, no untoward incident had been reported in the last 24 hours and they were keeping a strict vigil to maintain peace in the coastal district. Four more people have been arrested by the police in connection with rioting in Sirsi on Tuesday.

Bengaluru Jul 29: There will be a centralised system in place in Karnataka to classify asymptomatic, symptomatic and mild symptomatic persons and recommend treatment based on the severity of the cases, said Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Tuesday here.

"Various existing apps related to COVID-19 will be brought under one platform to get real-time information which will assist in strategising allocation of hospitals/beds to the needy. This will probably remove the delay in bed allocation and treatment which is being faced now. The patients will get all information in one phone call," Dr Sudhakar said.

Sudhakar spoke with a team of experts from the government and Infosys.

Referring to a company by name Step 1, which is providing such services in Delhi and Madhya Pradesh, the Minister said that a similar system will be implemented in the state as well.

"This company is having a team of doctors and nurses which is guiding the people whether they need hospital treatment or home isolation after they are tested positive for COVID-19. More than 70 per cent of the positive cases are being asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic and are advised to go for home isolation," the minister said.

"The load on the hospitals is reduced and severe cases can be administered proper treatment. Infosys co-ordinates with the government to provide technical support for this system," Dr Sudhakar added.

Earlier during the day, the minister held a video conference with the heads of private medical colleges to review COVID preparedness.
The government has already passed guidelines to allocate 50 per cent of hospital beds for COVID patients.

Apr 23: An FIR has been registered in Nagpur against Republic TV channel's editor Arnab Goswami for promoting social disharmony and accusing Congress President Sonia Gandhi of orchestrating the Palghar lynching.

Three Mumbai residents, including two sadhus, who were on their way to Silvassa on April 16, were lynched by a mob in Gadakchinchale village of Palghar district on the suspicion that they were thieves. Nagpur Police Commissioner B K Upadhyaya said they received a complaint which was turned into an FIR at Sadar police station.

DCP Vinita Sahu said Goswami has been booked under sections 117 (abetting commission of offence by the public or by more than 10 persons), 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy), 153 (A) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 153 (B) (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national-integration), 295 (A) (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 290-A (public nuisance in cases not otherwise provided for), 500 (defamation), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the ipc. Another FIR was filed against him in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

In a statement condemning Goswami, Maharashtra Congress said the killing has been wrongly given a communal angle despite ample proof of the contrary. "At a time when country is fighting against coronavirus pandemic, it is very unfortunate that a section of media as well as politicians are trying to create social unrest... [and] spread racial and religious hatred in society. Goswami has tried to create misogyny against women in the society. He made an outrageous remark against the Congress president on a live TV programme. This is completely unethical journalism and we publicly protest it. We believe in brotherhood and cannot accept such animosity. This will be dangerous for the unity and integrity of the country (sic)," it said.
