New Delhi, Jul 8: Amidst allegations by a section of media that internationally acclaimed orator Dr Zakir Naik was involved in making hate speeches, Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said CDs of his speeches are being examined for necessary action and asserted that the government will not compromise on the issue of terrorism.

rajnath"We have taken cognisance of Zakir Naik's speeches and have given necessary instructions for a probe. A thorough investigation will be done. "CDs of his speeches are being examined," Singh told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

The Home Minister said necessary action will be taken in this regard. "As far as government is concerned, we will not compromise on terrorism at any cost. Whatever is justified will be done," he said.

Mumbai-based Naik has come under the scanner after it was reported that his speeches have inspired some of the Dhaka cafe attackers. Maharashtra government yesterday ordered a probe into the speeches by the Muslim televangelist.

"I have asked the Mumbai Police Commissioner to conduct a probe (into Naik's speeches) and submit a report," Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had said.

Naik's speeches, his social media accounts and sources of funding of a foundation run by him in Mumbai will be scrutinised, said Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio.

Naik, however, had released a statement, saying he "totally disagreed" that he inspired the act of killing innocent people in Dhaka. "There is not a single talk of mine where I encouraged one to kill another, whether Muslim or non-Muslim," he said.

The new Information and Broadcasting Minister, M Venkaiah Naidu, had called Naik's speeches, as being reported in the media, as highly objectionable.

"The Home Ministry will study (his speeches). It will take appropriate action after studying them," he had told reporters.

BJP has demanded action against Naik, saying he was a "threat" to national security as it was clear from his speeches that he "incited" people.

Dr Zakir naik is a man of peace and has always condemned terrorism saying it is against islam. But natural the indian media like Times now and its anchor Arnab goswami are hypocrites who lies about people by making a Hero into villain and Villain into a Hero for their own benefit should understand that they are a big threat to the country. ALLAH will make people like Arnab goswami go down on his knee for all the lies uttered against a man of peace who is appreciated across the globe for bringing people of all faiths together. We stand by you always Dr Zakir naik. Shame on Indian media and Arnab.

Dear Sir,
Good move- If he (ZK) found guilty with a concrete proof -put him behind the bar. So far no evidence against him that he is supporting terrorism. All peace loving muslim and non muslim brothers and sisters whoever watched his speaches knows about it.
but what about some of your team still roaming around disturbing peace in the society and some of them are behind the bar enjoying 5 star treatment and your govt is trying to abolish all cases against them?
Whats your opinion about them sir?

Udupi, Feb 8: A rare sixth century granite idol of ‘Lajja Gauri’ has been discovered fixed on the road in Barkur village of Udupi district, according to information furnished by Dr. Shivakant Bajpai, Superintending Archaeologist of ASI Bangalore Circle. Lajja Gauri is depicted in nude form and is said to be a fertility symbol. The idol is rare, though very popular among certain cults.

Dr Shivakant Bajpai, who is on a tour of the coastal districts, said that he first came across the image when it went viral on social media. He subsequently traced it to a public road in Barkur, which is an ancient historical town of coastal Karnataka. It was the ancient capital of the Alupa kingdom and a seat of power for several centuries.

“This is a very important idol and hundreds of vehicles pass over it every day. We are rescuing it and I have issued an order to my local in-charge to keep it in safe custody. I have also sent a mail in this regard to the DC and SP of the district,” he said.

The idol is likely to be of 6th or 7th century, though further study is required to confirm a date, Dr. Bajpai said.

Lajja Gauri is a lotus-headed Hindu deity associated with abundance, fertility and sexuality, sometimes euphemistically described as Lajja ("modesty").

Mangaluru, May 4: No major crowds were seen in the coastal city of Mangaluru today except in front of the liquor shops after the district administration relaxed the lockdown norms for 12 hours a day (between 7am and 7pm).

There was no mad rush of vehicles either on city roads when the relaxed lockdown began. There were fewer people to buy essentials in front of grocery and vegetable shops as they had time till late evening.

There was no let down in the number of police pickets as well as curbs on vehicular movement across the city either.

The government has allowed sale of liquor in CL2 (standalone wine shops) and CL 11 (MSIL outlets) to mop up revenues when Lockdown-3 commenced from Monday. Compared the other parts of Karnataka, the size of queues in front of liquor shops in Mangaluru were smaller.

Like other parts of the country, the lockdown was imposed in the coastal district on March 24 to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Prior to that, a curfew was imposed in the district from March 22 midnight. The lockdown did not apply to essential services such as sale of food, groceries, milk, vegetables, fruits, and meat and fish. Gradually the district administration had to intensify the lockdown and allow those shops to remain open only between 7 a.m. and 12 noon.

With the lockdown relaxation extending till 7 p.m., Mangaluru today witnessed people and private vehicles moving freely in the afternoon for the first time in more than a month. However, only those who had to go for work and do other essential activities were seen on roads. After 7 p.m. movements of all kinds of vehicles will be prohibited.

The relaxation was to facilitate economic activities that had come to a standstill during the first two phases of lockdown. Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha, meanwhile, warned the people against misusing lockdown relaxation and venturing out without any genuine reason.
