Sabarimala entry: Denied entry into her own house, Kanakadurga goes to govt care home

Malappuram, Jan 23: Kanakadurga, who recently entered Sabarimala temple, is facing a tough time as she has been denied entry to both her ancestral home and husband’s home.

Perinthalmanna police have sent Kanakadurga to ‘One Stop Centre’ shelter home for violence-affected women run by social justice department at Perinthalmanna after she was denied entry to her husband’s home when she returned from Kozhikode Medical College hospital (KMCH) after three-day treatment.

It was on January 15 that she was allegedly attacked by her mother-in-law when she returned from Sabarimala and she had been admitted to KMCH. Police had also registered cases against both mother-in-law and Kanakadurga for assaulting each other.

According to police, her brother had informed her that their family will not allow her to enter her ancestral house at Areekode and her husband also denied entry to his home at Angadippuram when Kanakadurga arrived back on Monday night.

Perinthalmanna circle inspector T S Binu said Kanakadurga was under police protection and she had been shifted to the shelter home on Monday night itself. A 10-member police force led by Perinthalmanna sub- inspector P S Manjith Lal has been deployed in the locality. Earlier, Supreme Court had ordered full-time security to Kanakadurga and Bindu, who had darshan at Sabarimala together. Days ago, Kanakadurga’s brother Bharath Bhushan had said that their family won’t allow her inside the house until she tenders an apology to Ayyappa devotees and Hindu community.

Bhushan, who was accompanied by a few BJP leaders, including party’s state vice-president N Sivarajan, had reinstated his earlier allegations saying that Kanakadurga made second attempt to enter Sabarimala with the support of police and CPM leadership. Police have already registered a case against Bhushan for denying her entry to the house.

New Delhi, Jul 27: India’s coronavirus epidemic is now growing at the fastest in the world, increasing 20% over the last week to more than 14 lakh confirmed cases, according to Bloomberg’s Coronavirus Tracker.

Infections in the South Asian nation of 130 crore people have reached 14.3 lakh, including 32,771 deaths, India’s health ministry said, with daily cases close to a record 50,000 on Monday. India is only trailing the US and Brazil now in the number of confirmed infections, but its growth in new cases is the fastest.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are among the states where the maximum number of daily cares are being reported. The world’s second-most populous country has been ramping up testing, with 515,472 samples taken on Sunday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research.

Still, India and Brazil have some of the world’s lowest testing rates, with 11.8 tests and 11.93 tests per 1,000 people respectively, compared to the US with 152.98 tests per 1,000 and Russia with 184.34, according to Our World in Data, a project based at the University of Oxford in the UK.

The Indian Defence Ministry, which had in its document that China intruded into the Indian territory in eastern Ladakh in early May, on August 6 took down the page which it had uploaded on its website.

According to a report by news channel NDTV, the ministry, in its document, had said the Chinese aggression has been "increasing along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and more particularly in Galwan valley since May 5."

"The Chinese side has transgressed in the areas of Kungrang Nala, Gogra and north bank of Pangong Tso Lake on May 17-18," the document, titled 'Chinese Aggression on LAC' stated.

The document revealed that "... a violent face-off incident took place between the two sides on June 15, resulting in casualties on both sides."

After the clash, a second corps commander level meeting took place on June 22 to discuss the modalities of de-escalation. "While engagement and dialogue at military and diplomatic level is continuing to arrive at mutually acceptable consensus, the present standoff is likely to be prolonged," it said.

A defence ministry spokesperson told the news channel that the document "did not go through him".

The opposition Congress, meanwhile, asked the government why the report was taken down with party leader Rahul Gandhi alleging that removal of the document from websites would not change facts.

"Forget standing up to China, India's PM lacks the courage even to name them. Denying China is in our territory and removing documents from websites won't change the facts," Gandhi tweeted.

New Delhi, Feb 5: Delhi High Court on Wednesday stated that that death warrant of all convicts in the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case should be executed together.

The Delhi prison rules do not state whether when the mercy petition of one convict is pending, the execution of the other convicts can take place and from the trial court to Supreme Court all convicts have been held by a common order and a common judgment, Justice Suresh Kumar Kait observed while passing the order.

High Court dismissed the Central government and Tihar Jail authorities plea challenging the Patiala House court's order, which stayed the execution of the four convicts in the case. It also observed that the convicts indulged in a heinous offence of a bone-chilling rape and murder of a girl and that criminal appeals by all convicts were dismissed by the courts.

Moreover, the court observed that the review petitions were filed after long wait and convicts are taking shelter of Article 21 which is available to them till their last breath.

A single-judge bench of Justice Suresh Kumar Kait had on Sunday kept the order reserved in the matter after special hearing of two days.

Earlier, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing on behalf of the Centre, alleged that the convicts were deliberately delaying the execution, adding that any delay in death sentence will have a dehumanising effect on the convicts.

A Delhi court last week stayed till further orders the execution of the four convicts -- Akshay Thakur, Mukesh Singh, Pawan Gupta, and Vinay Sharma -- which was earlier scheduled to take place on February 1.

The case pertains to the gang-rape and brutal murder of a 23-year-old paramedical student in a moving bus on the night of December 16, 2012, by six people, including a juvenile, in Delhi. The woman had died at a Singapore hospital a few days later.

One of the five adults accused, Ram Singh, had allegedly committed suicide in the Tihar Jail during the trial of the case.
