Sabarimala entry: Denied entry into her own house, Kanakadurga goes to govt care home

Malappuram, Jan 23: Kanakadurga, who recently entered Sabarimala temple, is facing a tough time as she has been denied entry to both her ancestral home and husband’s home.

Perinthalmanna police have sent Kanakadurga to ‘One Stop Centre’ shelter home for violence-affected women run by social justice department at Perinthalmanna after she was denied entry to her husband’s home when she returned from Kozhikode Medical College hospital (KMCH) after three-day treatment.

It was on January 15 that she was allegedly attacked by her mother-in-law when she returned from Sabarimala and she had been admitted to KMCH. Police had also registered cases against both mother-in-law and Kanakadurga for assaulting each other.

According to police, her brother had informed her that their family will not allow her to enter her ancestral house at Areekode and her husband also denied entry to his home at Angadippuram when Kanakadurga arrived back on Monday night.

Perinthalmanna circle inspector T S Binu said Kanakadurga was under police protection and she had been shifted to the shelter home on Monday night itself. A 10-member police force led by Perinthalmanna sub- inspector P S Manjith Lal has been deployed in the locality. Earlier, Supreme Court had ordered full-time security to Kanakadurga and Bindu, who had darshan at Sabarimala together. Days ago, Kanakadurga’s brother Bharath Bhushan had said that their family won’t allow her inside the house until she tenders an apology to Ayyappa devotees and Hindu community.

Bhushan, who was accompanied by a few BJP leaders, including party’s state vice-president N Sivarajan, had reinstated his earlier allegations saying that Kanakadurga made second attempt to enter Sabarimala with the support of police and CPM leadership. Police have already registered a case against Bhushan for denying her entry to the house.

Mumbai, Jul 1: Mumbai police on Wednesday imposed section 144 of CrPC prohibiting the movement of people in public places and gatherings, to prevent the spread of Covid-19, an official said.

The prohibitory order, issued by a senior police official, says restrictions on the movement of residents for non- essential work will remain in force till July 15.

The order prohibits "presence or movement of one or more persons in public places or gathering of any sort", the official said.

Jammu, Jan 15: Fresh landslides kept the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway shut for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, leaving over 5000 vehicles stranded.

"There were four fresh landslides in Digdol and Panthiyal belts on the highway in Ramban district. The traffic on the highway remained closed for the third day today", a police officer told PTI.

On Monday, heavy rains triggered shooting of stones in Moumpassi, Digdole and Panthiyal areas, forcing a suspension of the traffic, the official said.

Snowfall in Kashmir side of the highway, including Jawahar Tunnel, since Sunday has resulted in blockade of the highway.

"No fresh traffic was allowed from Nagrota in Jammu for Kashmir", he said.

As a result of the blockade of the highway, over 5000 vehicles remained stranded at various places en route from Lakhanpur in Kathua district to Banihal belt of Ramban district and also on the Kashmir side.

Hubli, Jul 12: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi on Sunday said that the Monsoon session of Parliament will be held with the government ensuring all health precautions for COVID-19 are followed.

"Monsoon session (of Parliament) will certainly be held. The government will do all the formalities and take all precautions," the Parliamentary Affairs Minister told reporters here.

Earlier in March, the Parliament had passed 12 bills during the curtailed budget session with Lok Sabha passing 15 bills and Rajya Sabha 13.
During the session, 19 bills were introduced in the two Houses (18 in Lok Sabha and 1 in Rajya Sabha). The two Houses were adjourned sine die after completion of the budgetary process including passage of the Finance Bill.

The second part of the session was curtailed in view of the threat of the spread of coronavirus.
On June 1, Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had held a detailed discussion on holding the ensuing monsoon session of Parliament in view of the coronavirus-induced norm of social distancing, sources said.

They said the leaders have taken note of reports suggesting that the fight against COVID-19 is likely to be a long haul.
