Bengaluru, Mar 8: State BJP president Yeddyurappa today lashed out at the Siddaramaiah government over deteriorating law and order in Karnataka and said the chief minister was running the state like 'Tughlaq darbar" ahead of the state assembly polls.

His remarks come a day after the state's most senior anti-corruption officer P Vishwanatha Shetty was hospitalised after he was stabbed repeatedly at his office in Bengaluru.

"By God's grace, he (Shetty) is still alive. I dont know how Siddaramaiah reacts to such incidents. When there is no safety for high-rank officers, will there be for ordinary people? The law and order has completely collapsed," Yeddyurappa told reporters.

He said the chief minister claimed that his government was number one. But it seems the government is number one is in terms of atrocities on women and breakdown of law and order in the state, the BJP leader said.

"It seems Siddaramaiah is running the government like a Tughlaq darbar. We have to bear it for two months," he said.

Yeddyurappa, BJP's chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Karnataka assembly polls, exuded confidence that his party would win more than 150 seats and form the government.

He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to visit Raichur on March 13 for the inauguration of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT).

Yeddyurappa was in the national capital to meet Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to request for inclusion of Talavara and Parivara tribal communities in the list of the Scheduled Tribes (STs). He also met Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on the arecanut issue.

"On April 19, 1991, the Centre had included Nayak, Weda and Valmiki communities in the ST list but not Parivara and Talavara tribes. We met the home minister and asked him to include these two communities in the ST list," he said.

The home minister has assured that the issue will be resolved at the earliest, he added.

On the areca nut issue, the state BJP chief said the central government has been asked to clear concerns over quality of areca nut and protect the interest of farmers.

"Areca nut (supari) is being grown and consumed for ages. Some concerns were raised by Congress on its quality in Lok Sabha and that has affected farmers. There is no such content in areca nut which is harmful to health," he added.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar among other party members were part of the two meetings.

Mangaluru, May 24: A youth committed suicide by jumping into River Netravati from the old bridge at Panemangaluru on the outskirts of the city.

The deceased has been identified as Nishant, son of Chandrahasa Moolya, a resident of Kolakeeru, near Kalladka in Bantwal taluk.

When Nishant jumped to river, a few Muslim youths - identified as Shameer Goodinabali, Mohammad, Tauseef, Mukhtar, Zahid and Arif - also jumped to river in an apparent bid to rescue him.

Though they managed to take an unconscious Nishant out of the water, he breathed his last without responding to any treatment. Jurisdictional Bantwal town police visited the spot later.

Meanwhile, a few locals captured the video of Muslim youths' attempt to rescue a Hindu youth on Eid al-Fitr amidst covid-19 lockdown. The video went viral within hours.

Social media platforms including WhatsApp and Facebook flooded with messages appreciating the courage of Muslim men, who endangered their lives to save a Hindu youth on Eid day.

Bengaluru, July 23: The Janta Dal (Secular) and Congress that had joined hands together in Karnataka ‘to keep communal forces at bay, have once again turned archrivals. The development comes a year after the collapse of JD(S)-Congress coalition government in the state.

Recently, Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah claimed that the Congress would have won at least 10 seats in the Lok Sabha elections had it not been for the alliance with the JD(S). In response, former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy of the JD(S), who headed the coalition government, blamed the Congress for its many 'conspiracies'.

In a series of tweets on Wednesday, Kumaraswamy said he was prompted by Siddarmaiah's claims to recall what transpired during the coalition government.

"There will never be a future alliance with Congress," Kumaraswamy declared, in a letter to his party colleagues on Wednesday. He claimed that there were many conspiracies on part of Congress, which led to the fall of the coalition government.

Bengaluru, May 2: Former chief minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah have urged the state government to arrange free-transport facilities to those stranded labourers and their family members to return their native places.

In a statement issued here on Friday, the former chief minister criticised the State Government for having decided to collect bur fare from them, ''three-times more than the regular fare''.

Stating that the migrant labourers, who had been stranded ever since lockdown had been clamped in the entire country are not in a position to pay for their travel, Siddaramaiah urged the state government to treat them with human face.
