Mangaluru, Aug 9: Several thousand people from across the district including students of various institutions on Wednesday staged a massive protest in the heart of the coastal city demanding justice for Kayva Poojary, the Class 10 student of Alva’s High School, who was found dead in her hostel room in Moodbidri last month.

More than three dozen organisations had extended support to today’s protest meet. The protesters took out a massive rally from Dr B R Ambedkar Circle before converging in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner.

Kavya's mother Baby Poojary, who was several times collapsed in the protest meet, exhorted all the people to join her fight to seek justice for her daughter. She alleged that the institution heads are trying to hush up the case. "Kavya is my daughter and at the same time, she is your sister. Support us in our fight for justice," she made an emotional appeal to the mammoth gathering.

Mayor Kavitha Sanil who took part in the protest rally, said she had come as a common citizen seeking justice to Kavya and not as the first citizen of the city. "During my visit to her (Kavya) house, I realised that Kavya's parents have several unanswered questions about her daughter's death. The investigating agencies need to find an answer to these questions," Kavitha said.

Requesting political parties not to interfere in the issue, she said: "This protest is a fight for justice. I am also a national sportsperson. I know that sportspersons are not weak-hearted to commit suicide. Only a thorough investigation will bring out the truth. I also support the demand for compensation to Kavya's family and I will do my best in this regard."

Dinakar Shetty, president, Justice for Kavya Forum, warned authorities not take the issue lightly. "There was a sea of change when the student community took to street after Nirbhaya incident in Delhi and it forced the government to amend the law. Kavya's case is as similar to Nirbhaya and that's the reason why students have come out on the streets," Shetty said.

He alleged there is a conspiracy behind Kavya's murder and it needs to be investigated. The police too are in favour of the management, he said, alleging police were trying to hide the facts of the case.

Bengaluru, Feb 20: Leaving the organisers of an event to protest against the CAA, NRC and NRP here red-faced, a young woman on Thursday reportedly raised "Pakistan Zindabad" slogan in the presence of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, who denounced her action and asserted "we are for India".

The woman, identified as Amulya, allegedly asked people to shout with her "Pakistan Zindabad" after the organisers of the event under the banner of "Save Constitution" invited her to address the gathering soon after Owaisi came on the stage.

Soon Owaisi rushed to snatch the mike from her hands and was joined by others who tried to remove her from the state.

But the woman was adamant and raised the slogan again repeatedly. Later, the police stepped in and removed her from the dais.

Owaisi then addressed the gathering, saying he did not agree with the woman.

"Neither me nor my party has any link with her. We denounce her. The organisers should not have invited her here. If I knew this, I would not have come here. We are for India and we no way support our enemy nation Pakistan. Our entire drive is to save India," the AIMIM MP said.

JD(S) corporator Imran Pasha claimed she was planted by some rival group to disrupt the event.

The woman, he said, was not in the list of speakers and demanded that the police investigate the matter seriously.

Sources say Amulya hails from Chikkamagaluru and her parents have always been in the forefront of taking on government and its policies for well over a decade.

As per local TV reports, the student was taken to Upparpet police station, but later shifted to an undisclosed destination for more questioning.

Dear DC Dr. Harsha, we want to know if you will take strict action on these anti nationals / rowdis / day robbers / terrorists who ransacked auto + beaten the auto driwer and stolen Rs. 10,000 from him though he was legally transporting the meat.   They same terrorists are involved in transporting live animals to beef export houses in Gujrat owned by Brahmins / Jains.   Will you be loyal to your duty and promise.   We will see how you will handle the issue failing which you will lose our respect and we will consider you as a dramabaz and phenku.   You should follow the law and treat everyone equally.  There should not be any pity on goondas/ terrorists belonging to sangh parivar.   The terrorists who thrashed the auto driver and damaged the auto and burnt the meat by pouring kerosene are not human beings and should be treated as anti nationals + terrorists.    We hope you will discharge your duty as per the oath taken by you while accepting your post.
