Udupi, Aug 30: Congress leader and former minister Pramod Madhwaraj has urged the people not to forget the development works carried out by the Congress in the city in last five years unlike the previous BJP administration.

Speaking to media persons here, Madhwaraj also accused the BJP was misleading people on the achievements of the Congress in Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) in the last five years.

“Unlike the BJP which had ruled the CMC from 2009-13, the Congress rule in the CMC from 2013-18 had not attracted charges of corruption. When the BJP left power, there were 8,500 tap connections in the city, it had now gone up to 18,500 connections. In the last five years, water scarcity during summer had been addressed to a large extent, whereas during the BJP rule, water was provided through water tankers, he said.

The BJP’s charge that the Trade Licence Fee had been increased recklessly was wrong. The fee had been fixed at Rs 100 in 1965. Hence it was revised on the basis of square foot of shops and business establishments. This meant that small shops paid less, while the big shops paid more. Even after this increase, the fee collected was a mere Rs. 60 lakh annually.

The BJP had brought grants of Rs. 125 crore from the State government during its rule in the CMC from 2009-13, but in the last five years, the Congress government had provided grants of Rs. 503 crore. It was due to these grants that works on drinking water supply and the underground drainage system had been taken up, he said.

To a query, he said that extraction of sand in Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) and non-CRZ areas in the district required permission from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF). The elected representatives of the BJP should pressurise the MoEF to give permission for it, he said.

Bengaluru, Jan 21: A massive protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC), and National Population Register (NPR) was witnessed at Shivajinagar's Chandni Chowk area on Tuesday.

Scores of people came together carrying national flags and placards to register their protest in the city.

Speaking to ANI, a protester said, "People of all religious community have assembled here in Chandni Chowk to protest against CAA, NRC, and NPR. We the people of India are against this law."

Terming the law as anti-constitutional, he said that we support all the states who oppose the CAA. We demand the revocation of CAA and the government should remove conditions in NPR which lead to NRC.

CAA grants citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist and Christian communities fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.

Unfortunately Hitler brother is our HM who is deaf, dumb and blind.   He has shit in his brain.   He is unfit to be called as human being.  He is thinking that he has no death.   I am sure that he will meet a miserable end.

Bengaluru, May 4: First year Pre-University results of Karnataka Department of Pre-University Education will be released soon.

According to a report, the first year PU result will be released on the registered mobile numbers of students or parents on May 5. The report also asked the colleges which offers PU course that the PU results should not be released on the notice boards.

This measure has been taken keeping in view to avoid gatherings in and around the institutions to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The Deccan Herald report also said the students who are not able to clear the exams after the PU results are declared will be given a chance to appear for supplementary examinations in college level and further details on this will be shared with the institutes by the department in due course.

"After the declaration of results, colleges can conduct online classes for students who are eligible to attend second year PU classes," the report added.

The state is yet to complete the SSLC (class 10) and PU second year (higher secondary or class 12) examinations as the spread of coronavirus and subsequent lockdown announced by the government has put the whole academic activities out of gear in the state.

Recently, the education minister has said the SSLC examinations in the state will be conducted as it is a "crucial stage in a student's life".

"We will consider it (SSLC examinations) when the situation becomes normal," The New Indian Express quoted the minister as saying.

The Karnataka SSLC exam was scheduled to be held between March 27 and April 9, and over eight lakh students had registered for the exam.

Updates on the date and other decisions regarding PU second year exams are awaited.

Earlier, the school education department had decided to promote class 7 and 8 students without any exams in the wake of lockdown aimed at controlling the spread of COVID-19.
