Udupi, Dec 14: A group of ‘immoral police’ forced a group of six friends – three boys and three girls –  to leave Delta Beach at Kodibengre in Udupi district on Wednesday just because they belonged to different communities.

According to the Additional Superintendent of Police Kumara Chandra, three girls from three different communities went to the beach with three boys belonging to a particular community. However, “local people” objected to their being on the beach.

Meanwhile, the police, who received information about the incident, rushed to the spot and informed the parents of the youths involved.

Some parents came to the beach, while others came to the Malpe Police Station and took their wards back to their homes. “No complaint has been booked by either those who went to the beach or by those who objected to it,” Kumara Chandra said.

The group of youths, which visited the beach, were friends from their school days. The group had earlier celebrated the birthday of one of the members of their group and then they visited the beach in the evening around 5 p.m., he said.

Following the incident, the district police have deployed a platoon of Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) at Kodibengre and a District Armed Reserve (DAR) unit at Hoode as a precautionary measure.

Bengaluru, Jul 23: The Siddi community in Karnataka got its first lawmaker as Governor Vajubhai Vala nominated five persons, including Shantharama Budna Siddi, to the Karnataka Legislative Council on Wednesday.

Shantharama Siddi had been working as a social worker and was a post holder at the Vanavasi Kalyan Prakalpa, a tribal welfare initiative of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

The Siddis, an ethnic group in India, are said to have descended from the people of the East African region. They are included in the list of Scheduled Tribes (ST) in Karnataka.

Apart from the Shantharama, the inclusion of CP Yogishwar, who had left Congress to join BJP in 2017 but failed to retain his seat in the 2018 Assembly polls, is also considered as a big decision.

Adagur H Vishwanath, another former JDS leader, who had quit his party and joined BJP but failed to retain his seat has also caught the attention of the people.

Further, Governor Vala has nominated Talwar Sabanna and Bharathi Shetty to the Upper House in the state.

New Delhi, Feb 3: BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde's swipe at Mahatma Gandhi has irked the top party leadership and he may be forced to apologise, party sources said on Monday.

A senior BJP leader said the Karnataka leader's comments were "condemnable" and the party leadership is upset with him.

"The party has conveyed its displeasure to him and asked him to take remedial measure. Any insult to Mahatma Gandhi is unacceptable," he said.

Hegde, a former Union minister, reportedly claimed at an event in Bangaluru that the entire freedom movement was staged with the consent and support of the British, and the independence movement led by Gandhi was a "drama".

He also wondered why the Father of the Nation was called 'Mahatma' (a great soul).

The party leader said the Lok Sabha MP is a "disciplined" member of the party and will do what he has been asked to.

Hegde, known for hardline Hindutva leanings, has a history of making controversial remarks.

This man and some others like him have reached the peak of their madness.

They will not change their attitude, as they know that nobody can do any harm to them.

Therefore they will listen only to dire action what they deserve per the penal code. If required put him behind bars.

Dont harm them more, see their families.
