VHP urges Modi govt to ban 'immoral' ads, shows

Mangaluru, Dec 30: Raunchy ads and bold TV shows and web series are in the line of fire of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. On the concluding day of its three-day Central Council meeting held in Mangaluru, the VHP expressed its strong reservation against "immoral advertisements" and shows and demanded a ban on them.

"There has been a deterioration of Hindu values in the society, which has resulted in the incidences of women being targeted," noted a VHP statement.

"Some television shows... immoral advertisements and films have also been one of the reasons for today''s situation in the society," it said, urging the government to strictly deal with such serials, webseries, and advertisements and even "ban them".

The VHP said such shows and ads are contributing to creating an unsafe atmosphere for women. "In Hindu society, women are worshipped and are not treated as commodity," it said.

The VHP has also demanded that the benefit of Article 29-30 be extended to all communities, including those practising Hindu faith. The VHP claimed that the discrimination is based on appeasement.

Talking about alleged appeasement, the VHP for the second day in a row has lashed out at the Andhra and Telangana governments. It claimed that the taxpayers money is used to find salaries of minority priests.

On Ram temple, the VHP has decided to hold nationwide Ram Utsav next year. The decision has been made to celebrate it in all villages, said the VHP.

"VHP has decided to hold big Sabhas in every village and mohalla of our country. It would initiate programmes portraying the life and principles of Lord Ram which need to be inculcated in today''s society," said the VHP.

In the three-day VHP Central Council and Pranyasi Mandal meeting, many delegates from the UK, USA and Asian countries participated.

Various points related to the Society, Nation and Hindu Dharma were discussed.

"We strongly object to paying salaries and other emoluments to ''moulavis'' and Christian priests with funds generated by the Hindu taxpayers. On the other hand, things have been made expensive for Hindu pilgrims," alleged the VHP.

Bengaluru, Mar 8: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has identified three more locations to open Viral Research Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL) including in Mysuru, Hassan, and Shivamogga in Karnataka.

According to a statement issued here on Sunday, these laboratories will start functioning shortly in Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute, Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences, and Shivamogga Institute of Medical Sciences. Besides, the ICMR has also identified sample collection centres in Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Science in Ballari and Kalaburgi Institute of Medical Sciences.

B G Prakash, State Joint Director (Communicable Diseases), said that the new Laboratories will help to ease the load on the two designated laboratories in Bengaluru. Currently, the virology laboratory in Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute and the NIV branch in Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases are doing COVID-19 tests in Karnataka.

Mangaluru, May 2:  Dakshina Kannada district administration has taken steps to quarantine people returning after having lost their jobs in foreign countries.

Marriages hall, general halls and hostels are being identified for the purpose, a source said.

Official said that Coronavirus scare also has forced many people from foreign countries, those in including Gulf countries, to return to their native villages.

The Gulf countries are also sending back those staying illegally there. 

Once the flight services resume, thousands of people are likely to return to the country.

Meanwhile, DK deputy commissioner Karnataka held a video conference with Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.

Bengaluru, Aug 3: All those who met Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, who has tested positive for Covid-19, in the last three-four days will have to be quarantined, Medical Education Minister Sudhakar K said on Monday.

He also said those who came in contact with Yediyurappa in a couple of programmes in the past week are being traced.

Sudhakar, a medical doctor himself, said Yediyurappa has "very mild cough and his chest is clear."

"I think eight to ten days," he told news agency when asked how long the Chief Minister would have to remain in hospital.

Sudhakar said he is also getting himself tested as a few of his office staff had tested positive.

"All those who met the Chief Minister in the last 3-4 days...ideally they should be quarantined till they receive their results/report. Those who came in contact with him in a couple of programmes will have to isolate themselves and subject themselves for testing," the Minister said.

On the Chief Minister meeting Governor Vajubhai Vala, along with Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai last Friday, Sudhakar said as a result "They also become primary contacts. Ideally, they should also be quarantined and tested."

Yediyurappa who was hospitalised on Sunday night after testing positive for Covid-19 was "doing well" and is "clinically stable", the hospital treating him said.

The 77-year old leader is being monitored by a team of doctors at the Manipal hospital here.

"He is doing well, is clinically stable and will be monitored closely by our team," the hospital said in a statement late last night.

"I have tested positive for coronavirus. Whilst I am fine, I am being hospitalised as a precaution on the recommendation of doctors. I request those who have come in contact with me recently to be observant and exercise self-quarantine," Yediyurappa had said in his tweet.

Yediyurappa was in home quarantine a couple of weeks ago, after some staff members in his home office were found infected with the virus. Subsequently, he tested negative for Covid-19.
