The deceased have been identified as Madoor Yousuf alias Madooru Isubu (40) and Ganesh Shetty.

According to police Madoor Isubu, who was arrested in 2010, was a close aide of underworld don Chota Shakeel. He was accused of involving in more than 17 criminal cases since the year 2001, including four murders, attempt to murder, hurting, rioting and extortion.

Ganesh Shetty was also arrested in 2010 in connection with the murder case of Mahendra Pratap in 1994.

Around a dozen people have been injured in the clash. The injured also include a couple of police constables, sources said.

Some of the injured who were rushed to Government Wenlock Hospital have been identified as Iqbal, Asif, Pradeep Vamanjoor, Umesh Kombar, Yuvraj Soorinje and Shobharaj.

Even though the exact reason for the clash is yet to be ascertained by the police, sources said that it erupted when the inmates had assembled for breakfast on Wednesday morning.

It is learnt that Isubu and Shetty were attacked by the members of a gang with lethal weapons. According to a police officer, the weapons might have been thrown over the prison wall by the gang members.

According Mangaluru City Police Commissioner S Murugan, the weapons used for the murder might have been thrown over the prison wall from outside by associates of some of the under-trials.

He declined to comment on the reports that the prison had witnessed clashes between two gangs for past few days.

He said that both the murders were by the same gang of criminals. “It was the result of a violent clash between two gangs. Madoor Isubu and his alleged associate Ganesh Shetty were attacked during breakfast,” he said.

He clarified that Wednesday’s murders have no connection with any communal incidents. “It’s a clash between two gangs and not a communal clash,” he said.

Vicky Shetty claims responsibility

A notorious criminal, who is known for his inclination towards Sangh Parivar, has claimed responsibility for the cold blooded murders of two inmates at Mangaluru sub jail on Monday.

Madoor Isubu and his alleged associate Ganesh Shetty were hacked to death inside the prison by a gang during breakfast on Monday.

Vicky Shetty, a fugitive gangster, reportedly called the office of a Kannada news channel and told that his accomplices committed the crime.

“Our boys did it. Because they (victims) were anti-nationals and associates of Dawood Ibrahim,” said the caller, who identified himself as Vicky Shetty.

Arguing that the “nation” and the “underworld” are one and the same, the caller said that this murder has sent a clear message for “anti-nationals”.

New Delhi, Mar 2: The bloodthirsty arsonists allegedly hired by pro-CAA politicians in the capital of India to target Muslims, did not spare even the house of a Muslim leader of BJP.

Akhtar Raza, the BJP’s minority cell vice-president for the Delhi Northeast district, is now not in a position to share his pain with anyone.

Even the police hadn’t come to his rescue, when the mob raising “Jai Sri Ram” slogans burnt down his house at Bhagirathi Vihar Nalla Road in northeast Delhi last week.

“They were chanting slogans. Around 7pm, they started throwing stones at us. I called for police help. But the police asked me to leave. We managed to flee before they burnt my house and destroyed everything,” Raza, who returned today to witness the destruction, told media persons.

“Those who attacked us were not locals. They were outsiders. They managed to identify and burn down all the 19 houses belonging to Muslims in this lane,” Raza said.

Apart from all the belongings in the house of Raza, the arsonists also have burnt down six vehicles belonging to his family.

Raza is sad that no one from BJP contacted him after the violence even though he has been serving the party and promoting its ideology for past five years. “No party leader contacted me. There was no phone call. There was no relief or special treatment or anything,” Raza said.

Interestingly, Raza is still indentifies himself as a BJP leader. “I belonged to BJP. I may continue in the party,” he said.

The locality remained tense on Sunday too. On Monday, several groups distributed relief materials among people who had queued up to collect them. In front of Raza’s house is a lane from which several bodies of innocent Muslims have been recovered.

Bengaluru, Apr 27: Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda on Monday demanded that the Karnataka government announce a special package for farmers who are on the verge of quitting agriculture as their profession following losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Please announce special package for the farmers to bail them out of the loss due to the lockdown.

Drop many of the schemes in the budget but don't leave the farmers in distress," Gowda said in his letter to Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa.

The JD(S) supremo said the way relief has been announced for the milk producers by procuring the unsold milk and distributing it to the slum dwellers, the same assistance should be provided to the farmers of the state.

"If you don't come forward to assist the farmers, then they will be forced to sell their land," Gowda cautioned the Chief Minister.

The former prime minister said the farmers are on the verge of falling in the debt trap and may be compelled to take the extreme step of suicide due to the losses.

Gowda said the farmers are unable to sell their crop because they are not getting proper price for their produce and are selling their crop at a throwaway price to minimise their losses.

"In just one month farmers reached the brink of bankruptcy as they are unable to sell the standing crops in lakhs of acres of land," Gowda said.

The JD(S) supremo has been championing the cause of farmers in the state and highlighting their sufferings.

On April 3 Gowda has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to look into the plight of farmers, labourers and the middle class people due to the lockdown.

"In such times of crisis, we should see to it that there is no disruption in farming activities by ensuring proper marketing channels to agricultural produce, especially perishables.

Only then we can sustain our long battle against this pandemic," Gowda said in a tweet.

Bengaluru, Feb 29: The BJP leaders in Karnataka rallied behind Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal amid a controversy over his remarks that centenarian freedom fighter HS Doreswamy was a "Pakistani agent."

The saffron party leaders have extended support to Yatnal, days after he called Doreswamy a "fake freedom fighter" who behaves like a "Pakistani agent".

Yatnal made the comments at a press conference on February 25 while reacting to a query on a public meeting organised by the Congress titled 'Save the Constitution'.

"There are many fake freedom fighters. There is one in Bengaluru. Now we have to say what Doreswamy is. Where is that old man? He behaves like a Pakistan agent," Patil had said.

"Doreswamy is an elderly person and senior to all. He had participated in various agitations. He should also see what to talk and who will be hurt with those statements. We have all seen what he said about Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar told reporters in Kodagu on Saturday reacting to Yatnal's outburst against Doreswamy.

Noting that the statements were made in bitter taste, Kumar said, "If you speak unpleasant (things), you will hear unpleasant."

Bellary City MLA G Somashekara Reddy too backed Yatnal saying that the his statement was appropriate. "There is nothing wrong in his statement. It is absolutely correct. I support him. It is not just okay to be a freedom fighter, but he should be a 'Deshbhakt' (patriot) too, who respects the unity and integrity of the nation."

On Friday, another BJP Minister KS Eshwarappa slammed Doreswamy alleging that he had visited Amulya Leona's residence and shared a good relationship with her family.

Leona had raised 'Pakistan Zindabad' slogans at an anti-CAA event here on February 21, taking everybody present by shock and dismay.

"We respect Doreswamy but he dances to the tune of Congress and supports whatever their leaders say," Eshwarappa said.
