Mangaluru, Jan 4: Union Minister for Law D V Sadananda Gowda and former minister M Veerappa Moily have been challenged to pass a truth test in divine presence that the Yettinahole project is ‘clean’.

The Yettinahole Virodhi Samiti vice-president M G Hegade has challenged Sadananda Gowda and Moily to visit Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala and pass a ‘truth test’ that not a single rupee has been misappropriated with regard to the Yettinahole project.

Addressing mediapersons in Mangaluru on Monday, the committee vice-president condemned the vague statements made about the committee by Sadananda Gowda. Hegade said that the Union Minister has called the Samiti members fake environmentalists. “He was unaware of the delegation led by local MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, which visited the Union Minister for Environment and the Union Minister for Water Resources. In addition, Gowda has said that the delegation has insulted him by not meeting him,” said Hegade.

“The words uttered by Sadananda Gowda are below his dignity,” said the vice-president, and urged the minister to apologise for the remarks.

Hegade further alleged that Gowda and Moily were both responsible for the implementation of the unscientific Yettinahole project. “Both the politicians have been disloyal to the people of Dakshina Kannada. While all the people of the district – including the MPs and various religious leaders – are protesting against the projects, Gowda and Moily have turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to the urges. The people of the district should banish them both from the district,” he called upon the people.

Subject expert and NITK former professor S G Mayya said that the minutes of the meeting of the Regional Empowered Committee, Regional Office (SZ), Bengaluru, on December 28, at the office of the Chief Conservator of Forests, Hassan, on Yettinahole project is full of contradictions.

The minutes also vaguely called that the meeting of the Union Ministers by K N Somashekhar and others as ‘pressure tactics’.

Criticising the matter, Mayya has said that nobody has the right to criticise the meeting of an elected representative. “The decision taken at the meeting to clear the forests in the project area is against the Forest Conservation Act. The habitat of the wild animals, the elephant corridor and the non-clearing of forests in the areas are all prone to soil erosion, but this has not been considered. Also, the environment impact report has not been submitted. The argument that only five to six hectares of forest area will be cleared for the project is far from the truth. The government has followed a Term Key Project, without inviting tenders, which will lead to devastation,” warned the former professor.

Mayya further said that the reduction in water content in the rivers will lead to an increase in the salinity of water as per the study of the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT).

Leaders Vijay Kumar Shetty, Shashiraj Shetty Kolambe, Dinakar Shetty, Uttam Alva, Ramachandra Baikampadi, Hussain Katipalla and MCC Deputy Mayor Purushottam Chitrapur were present.

If any leader commits offense, it is not a crime for him. He is not unease with his action.
He has no conscience, he can swear anything.

Social media giant Twitter briefly blocked the Karnataka BJP's account after it posted several provocative tweets and taunted Muslim women.

Ironically, the BJP called its unhygienic tweets as "liberal views". "It is unfortunate that our handle was locked out by Twitter for speaking the truth about liberals," it said.

"A big thanks for your support and encouragement. Satymeva Jayate. Jai Hind," the political party said to its supporters.

However, it did not specify for how long Twitter blocked its account but tweeted again on Wednesday after Monday.

Last week Karnataka BJP drew flak on Twitter for taking a swipe at Muslim women who appear to be standing in a line to vote in Delhi's assembly polls. ""Kaagaz Nahi Dikayenge Hum" ! ! ! Keep the documents safe, you will need to show them again during NPR exercise (sic)," the party's Karnataka Twitter handle posted using the hashtag #DelhiPolls2020.

It tweeted on Monday, accusing Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Sushil Kumar Shinde and Vijay Bahuguna for "cheating" Dalits.

Karnataka BJP spokesperson G. Madhusudhan said that he had no idea about the account being blocked and then unblocked by Twitter.

"What has happened? I don't know," said Madhusudhana.

Reacting to the drubbing BJP suffered in the Delhi Assembly polls, the party tweeted that there is no need to lose heart.

"Now is the time to go back to voters to win their hearts and minds. Let us plan for 2025 from today. We are with you," tweeted Karnataka BJP on Wednesday.

Though BJP congratulated Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for winning the Delhi polls, the party highlighted that it managed to increase it vote share by six per cent compared to 2015.

Bengaluru, Jan 21: Braving the biting cold, chief minister BS Yediyurappa took time out of his busy schedule to go around Davos on Monday.

Clad in a long coat over a suit, scarf and leather gloves, Yediyurappa, with secretary S Selvakumar in tow, took in the sights of well-laid bylanes, quaint houses and snow-covered pine trees. He also rode a cable car at Persenn.

A cook from Andhra Pradesh, who works at an Indian restaurant in Davos, served the CM shavige uppittu and khara pongal for breakfast. Yediyurappa had chapatis and rice for dinner.

Meanwhile, Karnataka is likely to have a ‘Centre for Internet of Ethical Things’, perhaps, the world’s first, which will seek to ensure ethical practices in trade and businesses, besides addressing issues like misuse of artificial intelligence, a concern that has been bothering business leaders across the globe.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Yediyurappa signed an informal agreement with Murat Sonmez, the forum’s managing director, on Monday. "Investors around the globe are worried about unethical practices in business and a centre is the need of the hour," Sonmez was quoted as saying in a press release. "If the Karnataka government is serious about securing investment, it should set up the centre immediately."

Yediyurappa immediately responded to the suggestion by prompting Sonmez to write down an informal agreement on a sheet of paper which both signed. "This centre will go a long way in Karnataka’s history of industrial development," Sonmez was quoted as saying in a release by the Karnataka delegation.

At the inauguration of Karnataka’s pavilion, Yediyurappa promised all support to investors. "We are happy to be here and look forward to engage you on various development agenda," he said adding that he was keen to partner on certain strategic research that can help Karnataka become a major player on the global stage. "With Karnataka emerging as a leading industrial state in India, we can make it a major player on the global stage," he said.

Industries minister Jagadish Shettar, chief secretary TM Vijaya Bhasker and industries secretary Ramana Reddy were also signatories to the informal agreement.
