AAP falls short of fund collection target

New Delhi, Feb 8: Aam Aadmi Party might be frontrunner in the race to take over the reins in Delhi but it has fallen way short of achieving its target of collecting Rs 30 crore before the February 7 polling.arvind kejriwal

With around Rs 18 crore in its kitty, AAP has fallen short of its target of collecting Rs 30 crore before the elections, despite employing a number of innovative initiatives like fundraiser dinners, 'Coffee with Kejriwal', and 'Selfie with Mufflerman'.

However, the party has taken it in a positive stride and refused to pin the blame on its donors.

"Our target was raising over Rs 30 crore by the polling day and we haven't been able to cross that, but it's also true that whatever we have done is in just two months," said AAP's fund collection in-charge Arvind Jha.

In the 2013 elections, the party had to ask people to stop giving money as donations saw a rise.

Elaborating further, Jha said, "One must not forget that we started in late November which is much shorter a span of time than we had with us in 2013."

He said data showed that the party had more small token donors, a symbol of its "increasing base" both inside and outside India.

"It's a reaffirmation of the fact that we accept all kind of donations and in the most transparent way possible," Jha told media.

The AAP had been using improved ways of fund collection, one of which is an 'App' called "Aap Ka Daan" created by Prasenjit Pati, a Bhubaneswar-based volunteer who was a junior of party convener Arvind Kejriwal at IIT-Kharagpur.

"The app was created in order to reduce the hassles in the donation process as there were a number of small token donors who could not contribute to the party online," said Pati.

Asked whether there was any kind of "pressure" from the party leadership to gather more funds, Jha said, "The pressure is not from the top but from within the fund collection team."

The party's fund collection will continue till a decision is arrived at by the central leadership of the party, he said.

Kozhikode, Aug 8: A tailwind or crosswind could be the reason for the Air India Express flight mishap at Kozhikode international airport in Kerala, according to some aviation experts. 

Team of DGCA and AIE already reached the spot. With the death of the captain and co-pilot in the mishap, the investigation would be focusing mainly on the voice recorders and other technical aspects.

It is learnt that the ill-fated aircraft, IX 1344 with 190 onboard including crew, was initially planning to land on runway-28 of the airport. But later the pilot opted runway-10 which is toward the other direction. Pilots would be taking the decisions on the basis of inputs from ATC.

The questions now doing the rounds are what made the pilot opt runway-10 and whether the tabletop runway lacked adequate safety parameters.

An aviation expert, who didn't want to be quoted, said that Capt Deepak Sathe, who was commandeering the aircraft, was a well-experienced pilot and was also familiar with the terrains. Hence the chances of any error from his part was very unlikely. Hence a fair in-depth probe was required to find the exact cause.

Though the Kozhikode airport has an Instrument Landing System, it was of category-I for which pilot's visibility is very crucial toward a touchdown. Since it is a tabletop airport and rough weather prevailing in the region, the chances of tailwind was also high, said sources.

There had been safety concerns about the airport over quite some time. In 2011 aviation safety consultant captain Mohan Ranganathan reportedly gave a report citing the safety issues, especially the buffer zones at the end of the runway.

However, an AAI officer said that rectification steps were already done by last year by widening the Runway End Safety Area (RESA) from 90 metre to 240 metre. However, the length of the runway had to be reduced to 2,700 metre from 2,850. The AAI was also constantly pressing for increasing the runway length to 3,150 metres. But that was getting delayed due to land acquisition issues pending with the state government.

Hubli, Jul 12: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi on Sunday said that the Monsoon session of Parliament will be held with the government ensuring all health precautions for COVID-19 are followed.

"Monsoon session (of Parliament) will certainly be held. The government will do all the formalities and take all precautions," the Parliamentary Affairs Minister told reporters here.

Earlier in March, the Parliament had passed 12 bills during the curtailed budget session with Lok Sabha passing 15 bills and Rajya Sabha 13.
During the session, 19 bills were introduced in the two Houses (18 in Lok Sabha and 1 in Rajya Sabha). The two Houses were adjourned sine die after completion of the budgetary process including passage of the Finance Bill.

The second part of the session was curtailed in view of the threat of the spread of coronavirus.
On June 1, Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had held a detailed discussion on holding the ensuing monsoon session of Parliament in view of the coronavirus-induced norm of social distancing, sources said.

They said the leaders have taken note of reports suggesting that the fight against COVID-19 is likely to be a long haul.

New Delhi, Mar 6: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday will move the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Second Amendment) Bill, 2019 for consideration and passing in Lok Sabha.

In December last year, the Union Cabinet had approved a proposal to promulgate an ordinance to amend the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) 2016.

The amendments will remove certain ambiguities in the IBC 2016 and ensure smooth implementation of the code, an official statement said.

The move is aimed at easing the insolvency resolution process and promoting the ease of doing business. Aimed at streamlining of the insolvency resolution process, the amendments seek to protect last-mile funding and boost investment in financially-distressed sectors.

Under the amendments, the liability of a corporate debtor for an offence committed before the corporate insolvency resolution process will cease.

The debtor will not be prosecuted for an offence from the date the resolution plan has been approved by the adjudicating authority if a resolution plan results in change in the management or control of the corporate debtor to a person who was not a promoter or in the management or control of the corporate debtor or a related party of such a person.

The amendments are aimed at providing more protection to bidders participating in the recovery proceedings and in turn boosting investor confidence in the country's financial system.
