Don't over-exploit resources: Minister

Kasaragod, Jun 6: In the context of unprecedented drought situation experienced in the State, hundreds of people from all walks of life observed World Environment day by joining hands with the government on its massive afforestation drive.

Addressing a public function after inaugurating the district-level World Environment Day programme at the AUP School, Udinoor near Trikkarippur,on Monday Revenue Minister E. Chandrasekharan said that it is the duty of society to conserve nature to help the next generation get clean drinking water and natural resources.

The State initiated ‘Haritha Keralam' scheme has been conceived keeping in mind a healthy and sustainable life in the State.

While adopting lenient attitude towards all living beings on plant Earth, its is equally pertinent to remember that natural resources are not over-exploited for pecuniary gains, he pointed out.

Vegetation is essential to maintain balance in the eco system. It is equally important to nurture the planted saplings till they are equipped to fend for themselves and students, teachers and parents should shoulder the responsibility of ensuring that the saplings are well maintained.

Mr. Chandrasekharan while addressing the function revealed that he had planted 10 saplings in his residential premises at Perubala near here to mark the day.

The function, presided over by Thrikkaripur MLA, M. Rajagopalan, was attended by district panchayat president A.G.C. Basher, who formally opened the bio-diversity park at the venue. District Collector K. Jeevanbabu gave away the ‘Vanamithra Puraskaram' to P.P. Divakaran Kadinjhimoola.

Senior district officials besides representatives of various local bodies also attended the function.

Bengaluru, Apr 6: Popular Kannada comedy actor Prakash, popularly known as Bullet Prakash in the film industry, died due to multi-organ failure at a private hospital in the City on Monday.

He was 44.

He is survived by wife, one son and a daughter.

Mandya, Jul 6: With a journalist from Srirangapatna testing positive for Covid-19, the Mandya District Journalists Association was sealed as a precautionary measure.

Association President K C Manjunath said on Monday that as the reporter has tested positive for Covid-19, it was voluntarily decided to seal down the premises for another month.

Mandya, Apr 3: Following the lock down in the country, people habit ventured into Liquor bottles worth several lakhs of rupees have been stolen at two places in the district.

Miscreants targeted a wine store at Chikka Mandya on the outskirts of the town in the early hours and also made away with the stock from a wine store near Hadly Circle in Malavalli town late night on Thursday. The incidents came to light on Friday.

A window was broken open at Chikka Mandya store and a wall was drilled at Malavalli store to take away the cartons, the police said.
