Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 20: The stray dog menace in Kerala continues unabated with a 65-year-old woman being mauled to death by a large pack on a suburban beach at nearby Kanjiramkulam in the state capital.

The hapless woman, Siluvamma, a resident of the coastal belt, was attacked by a large number of stray dogs at Pulluvila beach, according to her family.

She suffered dog bites all over her body and succumbed to injuries while on her way to hospital.

The dogs also attacked the local people who tried to rescue the woman by chasing them away.

Siluvamma's son Selvan, who was also attacked by the dogs while trying to rescue his mother, escaped by jumping into the sea.

"My mother went to the beach in the night. As she did not return, I went out searching for her. What I saw was shocking. She was being attacked by over 100 stray dogs. She was bleeding all over the body," Selvan told reporters later.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, another native of Pulluvila, Daisy, was also attacked and severely injured by stray dogs last night.

The 52-year-old woman said she was attacked by a pack of dogs when she went out of the house at around 11.30 PM.

She was rushed to the government medical college here and given a shot of anti-rabies vaccination

Medical college hospital sources said though she had injuries on her hands and legs, her condition was stable. She was shifted to Pulluvila primary healthcare centre for further treatment in the morning, they added.

Stray dogs have been posing a great threat to people, especially women, children and the elderly in coastal stretches in Kerala, including Pulluvila, for some time.

The issue has been a point of debate in Kerala for the last few years after increase in incidents of stray dog attacks and was also raised in the Assembly earlier this year.

According to a report submitted in the Supreme Court recently in a connected case, more than one lakh people in Kerala have been bitten by dogs in 2015-16.

The report was submitted by a committee appointed by the apex court to look into the aspect of treatment of people bitten by stray dogs and claims of compensation in the state.

The report also said Kerala is estimated to have stray dog population of 2.5 lakh, which feed lavishly on the waste and garbage dumps across cities and towns.

According to the panel, the maximum reported cases of dog bites were from Thiruvananthapuram- 5948, Palakkad-4916, Kollam-3670, Pathanamthitta-2892, Alappuzha-2967, Ernakulam - 2050, Thrissur-2044 cases and Koattayam-1614.

I want to know from them wat was the need for this. Has this helped the ordinary Mangalore Muslims in anyway. I would not have asked abt this if the program was conducted in your house. But here it is done in the name of Muslims. We need to stop being intellectually dishonest

We respect ur decision sir.

But there are a lot of questions about it on people's mind.

We need to be updated about ur next plan of action.

Are u planning to approach the court for gaining the permission from the police, bcoz otherwise I don't think we will get the permission

Secondly, a few days back I wanted to contact Muslim central committee office to confirm if the protest Wil be there. I googled for the no, but the no. did not exist. Does that mean the Muslim central committee does not have an office or telephone no????

This only shows how organised we are.

Requesting Muslim central committee to get their house in order. Get more professional. Also consult people to utilise various platform to responsibly collect funds from so many ordinary bearys who want to donate money, but don't know whom to send it to.

We need an action committee to handle such situations. It must consist a battery of lawyers to fight the cases filed by the police.

If our leaders are old, they need to groom new leaders into the committee.

Moreover, it is important to question these so called leaders about their fecilitation program conducted for making kateel wen he won the election. Wat was the purpose of such fecilitation. Becoz I don't think he gives a damn when our community suffered. I question, whether all this is done in our name only to gain your contact and flourish ur business???

Never ever dare to do so in the name of Muslims

The Department of Preuniversity Education, Karnataka has declared the board exams or pre university I exam results. To get results online, the students need to log on to result.bspucpa.com and have to provide their registration number and date of birth.
Apart from the online portal, the students will get the results via mail or SMS.

“The results of the first year Pre-University Examinations will be announced on May 5. The results will be sent directly to students. Hence, colleges will not be displaying the results,” said S Suresh Kumar, Primary and Secondary Education Minister.

The pre-university course of PUC is a two-year course including class 11 and class 12 called PUC I and PUC II. It is based on PUC score that candidates can get admission to varsities.

Earlier, the Karnataka PUC 1 result was to be announced on March 27 which was postponed and hence the revised dates are announced now.

The board exam results have been put on halt due to the nation-wide lockdown imposed after the coronavirus pandemic gripped India. As of May 3, the number of people infected by the coronavirus in India had crossed over 40,000.

The HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had in a meeting asked state and central boards to resume their evaluation process and declare the results to curb any further delay in the academic cycle. The academic cycle has been delayed by over a month due to the coronavirus. Now, the colleges will start by September instead of July.
