Manipal, Apr 15: The Centre for Gandhian and Peace Studies, a constituent of Manipal University, will organise a seminar on “Understanding Islam” on its premises here on Saturday.
A press release issued here on Thursday said that the seminar proposes to explore different dimensions of Islam as a religious culture with its own belief systems, philosophy, science, day-to-day practices, festivals, customs, diversity and reform movements.
It is an attempt to understand Islam in its diversity as practiced in different regions of the world, much against the image of being a stereotype. While there could be misunderstanding, primarily also due to lack of adequate knowledge about the practices, the seminar essentially makes an attempt to fill this gap.
The topics and speakers at the seminar include “Origin and Evolution of Islam” by Shariq Ahmad Khan, a student of Gandhian Studies and Communication from Manipal, “Basics of Contemporary Islam” by Zubair Ahmed, an engineering student from Hyderabad and “Sufism, Islam and women” by Nadeem Ahmed Moonakal, a student of Gandhian Studies and Communication from Manipal, the release said.
