Mysuru, Mar 16: Mysuru limped back to normality on Tuesday, a day after violence gripped the city during the bandh called by the Bharatiya Janata Party to protest the murder of its party activist Raju.

Hundreds of police personnel, including the Rapid Action Force (RAF), on Tuesday took out a flag march in trouble-hit Kyatamaranahalli and surrounding areas under Udayagiri police limits here.

DCP (law and order)?H?T?Shekar, who led the march along with SP?Abhinav Khare, told media that two companies of RAF from Coimbatore in?Tamil Nadu had arrived in the city to boost people's morale in the tense areas.

A flag march was taken out from D?Banumaiah Polytechnic College and culminated at the same spot, after passing through Basappaji Circle, Rajapatha Circle, Syed Abdul Rahman Road, Azeez Sait double road (Mahadevapura main road), Sultan Road, Usmania Masjid junction, Harischandra Ghat road, Kyatamaranahalli, disputed Alim Sadhiya Mosque junction, PF office road and Azeez Sait double road.

Apart from 240 RAF personnel that included women with self-loading rifles (SLRs), five battalions of district armed reserve (DAR) police personnel, three belonging to Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP)?force, mounted police and 150 other police personnel took part in the march. Vajra, an armoured vehicle of RAF, accompanied the marching contingents. Even two days after the BJP worker's murder, an eerie calm prevailed in Kyatamaranahalli and surrounding areas. Barring MG?Road near Lal Bahadur Shastry Circle, where normalcy returned, a majority of shops remained shut and houses were found bolted from inside on Kyatamaranahalli main road.

Though some shopkeepers resumed business at Tent Circle in Kyatamaranahalli, anxiety was writ large on their faces.

Except a few local people, police dotted the roads, with prohibitory orders under Section 144?CrPC extended till March 16 midnight.

Mangaluru, Apr 23: Muslims in coastal Karnataka will fast tomorrow (April 24) along with Middle Eastern Muslims as the Khazis in the region have confirmed the beginning of the blessed month of Ramadan tonight.

Religious authorities in Saudi Arabia and a few Middle Eastern countries have already declared that Friday will be the start of the month of fasting.

In Kerala and twin districts of coastal Karnataka - Dakshina Kannada and Udupi- the announcement was made following maghrib praers as the cresent moon was sighted in a few places in Kerala.

The Thakbeer was pronounced from the minarets of the mosques across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi after Maghrib Namaz as the religious heads confirmed the moon sighting.

However, the religious heads including Mangaluru Khazi Twaqa Ahmed Musliar and Udupi Khazi Ibrahim Musliyar Bekal, have urged the Muslims to offer all the prayers including Taraveeh at homes along with family members due to the lockdown imposed to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

There will be no congregational taraveeh prayers in mosques and Muslims should follow the covid-19 guidelines of the government, they stated.

Ramadan begins around 11 days earlier each year. Its start is calculated based on the sighting of the new moon, which marks the beginning of the Muslim lunar month that varies between 29 or 30 days.

During the month, Muslims are expected to abstain during daylight hours from food, drink, smoking and sex to focus on spirituality.

How it is possible that only Kerala people can witness the moon?

Can they come forward in Media and give Shahaadah, why the other parts of India will not follow.

Bengaluru, Feb 25: A smooth-talking ‘swamiji’ has come under police radar after a widow lodged a complaint stating he cheated her of over Rs 27 crore and three kgs of gold between 2016 and 2019.

The woman, Geetha of Ramamurthynagar, was staying with her three sons after her husband, a landlord, died in 2009. Her family owned several sites in Tavarekere and other parts of the city, apart from a farm near Bethamangala in Kolar district.

Geetha, who had got into property disputes with her relatives, said she was introduced to the accused, Nagaraj C of Bangarapet, who claimed to possess powers to ward off evil spirits, by one of her farm labourers. “I was assured that all my problems would be solved. He came to my house and claimed he had been sent by god and would find solutions to all my problems,” she stated.

Nagaraj allegedly pretended to be possessed by spirits and directed her to give him gold bars. Geetha ended up giving three kgs of gold in the process. Later, he began directing her to sell a few properties stating these were the root cause of her problems. “I sold many properties and pledged a few residential sites. He took Rs 22.5 crore that came from selling properties, apart from Rs 5 crore cash from my husband’s savings,” she stated.

She said Nagaraj took the money from her on the promise of buying alternative properties. “When I demanded he return all my money, he threatened to kill me and my kids using evil spirits,” she alleged.

Police have registered a case of cheating, criminal conspiracy, criminal intimidation under various IPC sections and Karnataka Prevention and Eradication of Inhuman Evil Practices and Black Magic Bill, 2017, against Nagaraj and others.

Bengaluru, Feb 18:  A fan of Kannada film star Darshan smashed the face of a police constable with a boulder when the latter asked him to come in the queue to a party to celebrate the star’s birthday.

The incident happened past midnight on February 15 near the residence of the film star where his birthday was being celebrated.

The injured police constable has been identified as Devaraj, attached to the Jnana Bharathi police station.

The film star’s managers had not made arrangements to handle a huge crowd that gathered near his residence and police had a tough time controlling the crowd.

Constable Devaraj was deputed to duty at the party and tried to get the crowd to fall in line.

As the police carried out a mild lathi-charge to control the crowd, a fan of Darshan came up with a boulder in his hand and smashed the face of the constable Devaraj from very close distance. The constable collapsed on the spot and the attacker ran away.

The impact was such that Devaraj’s nose was fractured and he sustained an eye injury. He was admitted to a private hospital and his condition is said to be serious.

The R R Nagar police have registered a case under IPC sections 353 and 352. The cops have launched a hunt for the accused and they are obtaining CCTV footage from the spot.

A complaint is being registered against the organisers of the event and an investigation is on. Several neighbours of Darshan have also complained to the police about the chaos on February 15.
