Mangalore, Feb 16: A Bhatkal based youth made a futile attempt to smuggle 6 kg of gold ornaments at Mangalore International Airport on Saturday.
Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths seized the gold worth over Rs 1.5 crore from Abdul Haq when he arrived by an Air India Express flight from Dubai.
Based on a tip-off, the sleuths searched the accused thoroughly. Sources said he was hiding the gold ornaments inside chocolate boxes.
He was immediately arrested. Investigations are on.

Mangaluru, Feb 29: The state general assembly (SGA) of Karnataka unit of the Popular Front of India was held from February 27 to 29, 2020 at Puttur in Dakshina Kannada district wherein new functionaries were elected for the next two years.
Yasir Hasan was elected president of the state unit of the organisation while Nasir Pasha was elected general secretary. Ayub K Agnady, Mohammed Sharief and Shahid Nasir were elected vice president, secretary and treasurer respectively.
The state executive committee members are: Abdul Khader, Abdul Majeed, Sharief Kodaje and Mohammed Tafseer.

Madikeri, Aug 6: Heavy rainfall triggered landslides at Brahmagiri hills in Talacauvery in Kodagu on Thursday.
Four members of the Talacauvery temple priest family are missing in the landslides informed Annies Kanmani Joy, Kodagu DC.
She also informed that Advanced Rescue Team has been rushed to incident site.
According to the reports, houses belonging to two priest families were destroyed in the incident.
However, one house was vacant as family had moved to Bhagamandala.
Visuals from Kodagu showed a flood-like situation, with houses and vehicles submerged under rainwater.
Meanwhile, heavy rains continued to lash Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Chikkamagaluru districts on Thursday.
