United Nations, Oct 20: Saudi Arabia on Wednesday reaffirmed its full support for any measures and sanctions that would limit Iran’s aggressive moves and interference in the affairs of the countries in the region.

In a statement at the United Nations, delivered by the Deputy Head of the Saudi Permanent Mission to UN Dr. Khalid Manzlawi, the Kingdom regretted Iran’s misuse of the economic benefits of lifting the sanctions after the nuclear agreement and its use to continue destabilizing the region and developing its ballistic missile program and support for terrorism in the region, including Hezbollah, Houthi militias in Yemen and armed militias in Syria.

The statement was in response to the report of the Special Rapporteur on the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights, submitted as part of the activities of the Committee on Humanitarian, Social and Cultural Rights.

Concerning the measures applied to Qatar, Manzlawi said: “We would like to emphasize the Special Rapporteur's acknowledgment that these measures do not constitute a blockade because they do not affect Qatar’s reciprocal transactions with third parties. The measures taken in this crisis are within the relevant rules of international law.”

“It is a sovereign right of my country to take whatever it deems appropriate for the sake of its national security. We urge Qatar to cooperate in eliminating the scourge of extremism and terrorism rather than harboring and funding it, and implement the commitments it has signed in the Riyadh Accords 2013-2014 and stop interference in the affairs of other countries and destabilize neighboring countries.”

Qatar’s attempts to internationalize this crisis will not contribute in finding solutions, but may complicate them further, he warned.

“Qatar must realize that these policies are unacceptable, and we hope that wisdom will prevail in Qatar and it will respond to the demands of the international community,” Manzlawi said. Commenting on the report on the Gaza Strip, he stressed the Kingdom’s steadfast and firm position in condemning Israeli occupation of Palestine and all Arab territories, as well as the Kingdom’s keenness to lift the siege in the Gaza Strip.

He also called upon the international community to fulfill its commitments to ensure the security and safety of the Palestinian people and condemn all forms of occupation and the lifting of the unjust Israeli siege imposed on it.

Meanwhile, Manal Radwan, Saudi Arabia’s delegate at the United Nations, spoke during a Security Council meeting on “the situation in the Middle East” during which she spoke on the Kingdom’s position on Palestine, Syria and Trump’s recent decision on the Iranian nuclear deal.

On Palestine, Saudi Arabia said that Israeli occupation’s settlement expansion impedes the peace process and that Israeli occupation of Palestine must be addressed. “We welcome cooperation between Washington and Jordan to reduce the escalation in southern Syria,” she said.

Riyadh, Jun 18: Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb said that Saudi Arabia will resume tourist activities at the end of Shawwal (June 21) after a hiatus of more than three months due to lockdown measures imposed following the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.

The minister made the remarks during a television interview after chairing the emergency meeting of the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism on Wednesday. He said that the current indications are positive and that the Kingdom is ready to launch the summer program, which will be a boost for domestic tourism.

“It was revealed in a research study carried out by the Tourism Authority that 80 percent of Saudi citizens want to take advantage of domestic tourism. We will launch the domestic tourism program for the public after having made necessary coordination with the Ministry of Health and the concerned higher authorities,” he said.

Several Arab tourism ministers and officials of the relevant organizations attended the meeting, which discussed the challenges that the region’s tourism sector is facing due to the pandemic. Al-Khateeb pointed out that the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism, headed by Saudi Arabia, held the virtual session in exceptional circumstances to discuss ways to get out of this pandemic and revitalize the tourism sector.

“Saudi Arabia has initiated a package of financial stimulus activities with a total value of more than $61 billion to protect jobs and businesses and reduce the economic burden of the crisis. The domestic tourism sector has benefited from it as one of the important economic sectors, as it covered 60 percent of salaries of Saudi employees in the private sector for a period of three months,” he added.

Mar 21: Qatari authorities arrested 10 nationals for breaking home quarantine rules as Doha tightens regulations amid the coronavirus outbreak, local daily The Peninsula Qatar reported on Saturday.

The Ministry of Public Health released a statement naming the detainees and said that the violators were currently being referred to prosecution.

The tiny country, where expatriates comprise the majority of the population, on Thursday reported eight more infections to take its tally to 470, the highest number among the six Gulf Arab states that have reported a total of more than 1,300 coronavirus cases.

Government spokeswoman Lulwa Rashed Al-Khater told a news conference the new cases included two Qataris who had been in Europe, with the rest migrant workers.

Qatari authorities on Tuesday announced the closure of several square kilometers of the industrial area in Doha, the capital, which also contains labor camps and other housing units.

Dubai, Apr 16: Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO), unveiled a series of outdoor ads that form part of its new campaign to encourage the community to stay home.

Featuring the slogan 'For My Sake #StayHome for Us', the campaign depicts stunning artwork developed in collaboration with Emirati artist Maitha Demithan. The ads have been displayed on billboards, lamp posts and digital screens across Dubai.

The campaign reinforces the importance of staying at home in line with the strict restrictions on movement put in place by Dubai's Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management as part of intensified measures to combat Covid-19.

Nehal Badri, Director of Brand Dubai, said: "The outdoor campaign, displayed in prominent locations across Dubai, was designed to illustrate the importance of staying at home during the current sensitive period. Using Maitha Demithan's stunning creative artwork, we sought to send out a clear message to the community that staying at home is vital to safeguard the wellbeing of our loved ones.

This project is one of a series of initiatives launched in collaboration with UAE-based artists to raise awareness about the need to unite efforts to protect vulnerable people from the risk of infection."

Emirati artist Maitha Demithan said: "It has been a privilege for me to work on this project and an honour to serve my country through my artworks. The three portraits featured in the campaign create a triptych that represents the people who are the most vulnerable to being infected by the virus. During such difficult times, art can play a crucial role in raising awareness on how to stay safe, but most importantly it can keep everyone inspired. I encourage all my fellow artists and the creative community to continue practicing social distancing and stay connected by using their creativity and innovation to raise awareness during this period."

Brand Dubai partnered with several media outlets, including Media 24/7, Arabian Outdoor Media and Hypermedia to launch the outdoor ads. The ads are displayed on Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai Marina.
