Student held for derogatory Facebook post against Tipu Sultan

tipu Koppala, Jan 27: A miscreant has been arrested by the police in Koppala town of Karnataka for posting derogatory comments on Tipu Sultan on social media.

According to the police, Manjunath Mudgal, an ITI student, had posted pictures of Tipu Sultan on his Facebook account and passed derogatory remarks.

He had also defaced images of the Muslim ruler on his account. The incident was brought to the notice of the police by a few local residents.

Fearing a law and order situation, the police arrested Manjunath. He was asked to remove all the controversial pictures from his Facebook account. The police have registered a case.

Congress creating confusion among Muslim over CAA, claims BSY

Bengaluru, Jan 5: BJP leader and Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa once again blamed the Congress of creating 'confusion' among the Muslim community over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act-2019 while launching a door to door campaign to dispel such rumors.

Yediyurappa was on a door-to-door campaign to make people aware of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and to allay their fears.

"Unnecessarily, the members of Congress are creating confusion among the Muslim community. I assure you that not a single Muslim will be affected because of CAA," said B. S. Yediyurappa.

"Almost all previous Prime Ministers have supported it, now Congress is creating a problem so as to create confusion among Muslims. That's why we are out on the door-to-door campaign," he said.

The Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019, seeks to grant Indian citizenship to Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.

Coronavirus forces Modi govt to defer NPR, first phase of Census

New Delhi, Mar 25: The exercise to update the National Population Register (NPR) and the first phase of the Census 2021 will not be held as scheduled due to the 21-day lockdown announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, officials said on Tuesday.

Both the exercises were supposed to be carried out from April 1 to September 30.
Due to the prevailing situation, the NPR and Census exercises have been deferred till further orders, a senior home ministry official said.
The Prime Minister has announced a 21-day lockdown across the country from Tuesday night due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Karnataka govt hikes milk prices by Rs 2 per litre

Bengaluru, Jan 30: The BJP government of Karnataka has given green signal to the proposal of hiking milk prices by Rs 2 per litre.

The new prices will come into effect from February 1. Seeking revision of prices, the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) had submitted a proposal last week to the state government. Alongside the revision of milk prices, the state government has also hiked the prices of curd by Rs 2 per liter.

The sudden hike in the prices of milk, curd is likely to have a cascading effect on the milk related beverages such as coffee, tea, and milkshakes with hoteliers and eateries mulling to increase the prices of coffee and tea following the hike in prices.

Sources in the state government revealed to DH that out of Rs 2, farmers will be getting a lion’s share as their accounts will be credited with Rs 1. Another 40 paise will be given to the farmers towards the insurances of their livestock.

Another 40 paise will go to the milk salesmen in the form of commission. The remaining 20 paise will be distributed among the workforce at the milk cooperative unions as an additional incentive.
