‘Right-wing activist’ booked for trying to sexually abuse 5-year-old girl

Kasaragod, Oct 26: Police have launched a manhunt to nab youth who allegedly trying to sexually abuse a 5-year-old girl at Kottapara in Panyal village in Kasaragod.

The accused has been identified as Prashanth (30) a truck driver hailing from Pullur, near Kanhangad. He is said to be a right wing activist.

Acting on a complaint lodged by a Childline activist, the Bekal police on Wednesday registered the case against him under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act- 2012.

The complaint alleged that the youth had tried to sexually abuse the minor girl by luring her into an auto-rickshaw the other day, following which the girl’s parents approached the Childline office.

Mangaluru, May 15: Mohammed Kana, son of late Ismail Kana and grandson of late Dr M S Bapanad Mulki passed away in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia due to heart attack on Thursday. He was 57.

Hailing from Mangaluru, Mohammed Kana was working in Saudi Arabia for past 30 years. He is survived by his wife, son and a daughter.

He was involved in various social and welfare activities in India and Saudi Arabia. His tragic demise has left huge vacuum in his family and community at large.

Mangaluru, Apr 4: About 20,000 quintal boiled rice has been distributed among the ration card holders through Public Distribution System, District-in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary said here on Saturday.

As people in the district prefer boiled rice over white rice, the government has given approval for distributing boiled rice. From next month, only boiled rice will be distributed in the district at fair price shops.

In the last two days, rice has been distributed among 61,302 cardholders in the district.

Mangaluru, Jan 17: An auto-mobile shop at Deralakatte here caught fire on Friday incurring huge loss on the shopkeeper.

According to police, the incident happened in the morning when the shop owner opened the shop.

Locals suspect that miscreants might have set the shop on fire and had escaped from the scene at night.
